Speedy Ortiz announced that their new album, Foil Deer, would be out April 21 via Carpark, and they’ve now released its first single, “Raising the Skate.” This album was was recorded by Nicolas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective), and they’re saying it has more overdubs, keyboards and studio work than their debut. If that makes it sound like this is going to be their “pop” album though, “Raising the Skate” suggests otherwise. It’s still got all the discordant riffing that made Major Arcana so memorable, but it also covers new ground like the big vocal harmonies in those choruses. (And it references the Ban Bossy campaign.) Check it out (via Fader), with the album artwork and tracklist, below.

Speedy also announced a tour which includes a run with Krill and Mitski, hitting NYC on April 25 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show go on sale at noon on Friday (2/13). The tour also includes support on other dates from Two Inch Astronaut, Alex G, Palehound, and others. All dates are listed below.

You can catch Mitski at that same venue sooner when her tour supporting Hundred Waters stops there on March 5 (tickets).

Krill just played there with Porches, Frankie Cosmos and Sheer Mag over the weekend, and they’ll also be in NYC when their tour hits Silent Barn on March 14 with LVL UP and Cloud Becomes Your Hand. Their new album, A Distant Fist Unclenching, is now streaming in its entirety too. Listen below, via NME.
