Knitting Factory is opening a restaurant in Williamsburg

The Knitting Factory, who across the country own something like 10 venues and 3 restaurants, is taking over the space next door to their Brooklyn venue on Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg to open a restaurant this year. The space in question used to be Japanese izakaya joint Qoo Robata, which closed last spring. “We’re very excited to have the restaurant,” KF general manager Bob Reiter told Gothamist. “We love the neighborhood, and to add the food component to the Knitting Factory is also very exciting. We’re really stoked.” No word on what kind of food they’ll be serving, but design will be handled by Hecho Inc who did Baby’s All Right’s interior.

That intersection (Havemeyer & Metropolitan) is not exactly starved for food options: there’s The Commodore, St. Anselm, Saltie, Fette Sau, Momofuku Milk Bar, Siam Orchid, Onomea and a pizza place all within throwing distance….but being able to take your drink with you from dinner to Knit’s performance space would be a nice option.

Meanwhile, we have Knitting Factory talent buyer Richard Sloven’s Top 8 Tracks of 2014 (which we forgot to post in December. sorry, Richard!). Read his picks below…

Knitting Factory talent buyer Richard Sloven’s Top 8 Tracks of 2014

1 & 2. “Under The Pressure” / “Red Eyes” – The War On Drugs
Getting a new War On Drugs album this year was such a treat. I often get worried whenever a band I like puts out a record that it won’t be as good as I want it to be. The 1-2 punch of Under The Pressure and Red Eyes is so warm, wonderful and timeless.

3. “Seasons (Waiting On You)” – Future Islands
Like many others, I was introduced to Future Islands from their Letterman performance of Seasons and was blown away. This song is so fantastic that its a completely new experience just listening to it without the visuals.

4. “Down On The Bottom” – The New Basement Tapes
Jim James writing music to unreleased Bob Dylan lyrics, literally nothing could be cooler.

5. “Pete & Mary” – Joel Michael Howard
When I first arrived in NYC I wandered the city aimlessly, in the snow, with Destroyer’s Kaputt on repeat. This track reminds me of that time.

6. “The Promise” – Sturgill Simpson
Channeling Elvis and Roy Orbison on this track, Sturgill wrote (updated: covered) a classic heartbreaking ballad. I love his voice.

7. “American Religious” – Caroline Rose
I had the pleasure of seeing Caroline perform this at The Knit this year. Really pretty song to enjoy on a Saturday morning.

8. “Divisionary (Do The Right Thing)” – Ages And Ages
Every time I listen to this song I send up singing “do the right thing, do the right thing” over and over in my head for days. I still usually do all the wrong things.
