You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Father John Misty @ The Greene Space
Father John Misty’s lyrically relentless and deservedly well-received new album, I Love You Honeybear, is out now. Tonight he makes his first of four NYC appearances in support of it. This one’s a 12:30 PM “pop-up” show that will also be broadcast on WNYC.

Sturgill Simpson, Anderson East @ Bowery Ballroom
With a sound closer to 1977 Grand Ole Opry (or 1969 Haight-Ashbury) than Nashville 2015, Sturgill Simpson made a lot of year-end lists with his terrific take on classic twang, Metamodern Sounds In Country Music. Sold out, as is tomorrow’s show at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The Jaguar Club, Cosmonaut, Leave the Planet, Captain Baby, Night Squirrel @ Pianos
Amongst this line-up of Brooklyn indie bands are UK dreampoppers Leave the Planet who have been on a mission to play every small NYC and Brooklyn venue. They’re good too, gliding on the gentler side of shoegaze.

Tom Vek, Sage, Yellerkin @ Rough Trade
Known for his glitchy take on angular postpunk, Tom Vek is here debuting his new one-man show. Specifically: “As a one man band in the studio Tom has developed an “MPC” style live set featuring the more electronic side of his repertoire and re-imagined versions of songs, accompanied with synchronized visuals showcasing the strong graphic design that accompanies his releases.” Could be cool.

Big Terrific @ Cameo
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg’s Cameo. No word on who’s performing tonight, but Max usually lets us know via his Twitter.

Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Chip Taylor @ The Living Room
Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt’s Jay Farrar is plays his second of two NYC shows with veteran songwriter Chip Taylor who penned such hits as “Angel of the Morning” and “Wild Thing.”

Meshell Ndegeocello @ The Appel Room
Multi-hyphenate talent Meshell Ndegeocello (maybe best known for duetting with John Cougar Mellencampon “Wild Night”) released her new album, Comet, Come To Me, last year, and tonight plays one of the nicest venues (with an amazing view).

Zap Mama, Antibalas @ Highline Ballroom
Brooklyn Afrobeat greats Antibalas have been busy. They recently played the Daptone Super Soul Revue, and they’ll be appearing at the upcoming Talking Heads tribute, but tonight they play a more conventional show with Belgian Afro-pop artist Zap Mama.

THE MET, The Juggs, KEY RINGS @ Rock Shop
Drawing from a host of post-punk influences (Wire, Siouxsie), newish Brooklyn band KEY RINGS are a dark, driving downpour fitting of Manchester 1980. You can watch their strobed-out video for “Mystic Killer,” below.

‘Take Me to the River’ Live w/ William Bell, Otis Clay, Bobby Rush & more @ Brooklyn Bowl
Memphis music scene documentary “Take Me to the River” is being celebrated with two NYC shows this week (this being the first), featuring some of the artists in the film like soul legends William Bell, Otis Clay, Bobby Rush. Also on the bill is Frayser Boy, Al Kapone, Jerry Harrison, a 13 Piece House Band w/ Stax Records Hi Rhythm Section and The Royal Memphis Horns led by Ben Cauley.
