Cakes Da Killa

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Ms. Lauryn Hill @ Highline Ballroom
Lauryn Hill’s currently in the midst of a nine-show NYC run on her intimate acoustic tour. This is the second show, and it’s sold out.

JD Samson (of Le Tigre), Born Cages, Royal Tongues, Shirley House @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
MEN’s JD Samson will be performing live tonight as part of a group with Tami Hart (MEN), Lorna Dune and Aaron Harris. It’s free, like most Night Bazaar shows, with food, games, shopping and other things to keep you entertained.

Cakes Da Killa, Uniiqu3, Cunt Mafia, Rizzla, Tigga, LA TRICK$, Special Guests @ Baby’s All Right
Cakes Da Killa just put out his new IMF EP, which (like a lot of his previous work), has his unconventional dizzying flow over dark, murky production. Stream it below.

Obliterations, Sick Feeling, Mammal, Raid @ Saint Vitus
This great double-billed hardcore tour of Southern Lord-signed LA band Obliterations (not to be confused with the Norwegian Relapse-signed band Obliteration) and NYC’s Geoff Rickly-approved Sick Feeling hits Vitus tonight.

Iron Chic, After the Fall, Up For Nothing, City Limits @ Union Hall
Long Island’s Iron Chic are equal parts raspy-voiced punk and anthemic indie rock, and tonight’s their first headlining NYC show in a while.

You Blew It!, Tiny Moving Parts, Sorority Noise, Rozwell Kid @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Good bill all around of guitar bands with ’90s-style emo band You Blew It!, mathy post-hardcore band Tiny Moving Parts, DIY rockers Sorority Noise, and scrappy shredders Rozwell Kid.

Bambara, Chimes, BBIGPIGG, Conduct @ Trans-Pecos
Brooklyn’s Bambara sound like their name: loud and pummelling. A little dark too; 2013’s Dream Violence mixes gothy shoegaze with a good sense of melody… plus shringy feedback.

Quarterbacks, Crying, LVL UP, Long Beard @ Aviv
Quarterbacks recently put out their new self-titled lo-fi pop album, and tonight they celebrate it with chiptune pop punks Crying, trad-style indie rockers LVL UP, and bare bones singer/songwriter Long Beard.

Young Ejecta, Bruce Smear, Solvey @ Baby’s All Right
Young Ejecta (aka Joel Ford and Leanne Macomber) celebrate the release of their new mini-LP, The Planet, tonight. If you’re going, get there early to catch Solvey, aka Zambri’s Jessica Zambri in solo mode.

Florist, Cyberbully Mom Club, Vagabon, Jawbreaker Reunion, Fern Mayo @ Silent Barn
This is a cool mostly-local DIY show with Epoch associate Florist, Philly twee folk trio Cyberbully Mom Club, indie rockers Vagabon, indie punks Jawbreaker Reunion, and the noisy Fern Mayo.

Eliot Glazer, Dave Hill, Marnie the Dog @ Littlefield
Eliot Glazer (brother of Broad City‘s Ilana Glazer) brings his classically-trained pipes to his live show “Haunting Renditions” where he takes some of pop music’s most infamous songs and turns them into highbrow, sweeping ballads. Tonight’s special guests are Dave Hill and Marnie the Dog. Expecting howling…probably from Hill.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
