Against Me! announce 2015 North American tour (dates)

What was your immediate reaction to the “sellout” stuff? Did you feel zen about it, or were you more like, “Fuck this”?

I think that’s the knee-jerk reaction that happens. Obviously, when I was 23 years old and going through this, people were physically trying to fight us, slashing our tires. Stuff like that puts you in a really dissenting place. I definitely, at times, had that attitude of “Fuck you.” But the thing that I was taught with punk rock was: Think for yourself. Don’t listen to what other people tell you. Be happy to live your life. So I’ve only ever made decisions based on the facts that I’ve known to be true. A lot of that, I’m sure, was hard to explain to people, especially if you look at an album like [2010’s] White Crosses, thinking… well, obviously I was reconciling a lot of things in my life, and what happened next. I was still wrapped up in all that, so my narrative at the time of all of these records was completely different than other people’s. [Laura Jane Grace to SPIN]

Against Me! singer Laura Jane Grace already has two US solo shows coming up in May (including one in NYC – tix), and in the following two months, the full band will go on a North American tour. Support comes from former My Chemical Romance member Frank Iero and San Francisco’s Annie Girl & The Flight.

They’re set to play NYC for Brooklyn’s Northside Festival on June 13, but that show is still TBA. Meanwhile, they also have a NJ show on June 19 at Starland Ballroom. Tickets for the whole tour go on sale Friday (4/17). All dates are listed below.

Laura recently performed a solo acoustic rendition of “Pretty Girls (The Mover)” from 2005’s Searching For A Former Clarity (one of the first songs to hint at her gender dysphoria) for the AV Club. You can watch that here. She was also just interviewed by SPIN for their new feature on revisiting past albums that the magazine awarded “Album of the Year.” The album in question here is Against Me!’s major label debut, 2007’s New Wave, and the excerpt above is of Laura talking about the accusations at the time of “selling out.” You can read the rest of the interview here.
