While Future Islands‘ single “Seasons” probably would’ve been a hit anyway, no doubt their 2014 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman performing the song was a career-changing moment. The Baltimore group returned to the show last night to play brand-new single, “The Chase.” Frontman Samuel T. Herring dedicated the song to his hometown which has been in the news a lot this week. “This song is gonna go out to the people of Baltimore. Let us not discount their voices, or the voices of all the people in the cities that we live and love.” You can watch Future Islands’ performance on Letterman below.

“The Chase” was made available as a digital single immediately after the performance and features another new song, “Haunted By You,” which the band recorded in Austin with Spoon’s Jim Eno. Both songs will be available as a limited-edition 7″ single on June 30. Check out both sides and the artwork below. Future Islands will play NYC at Governors Ball in May. Updated tour dates are listed below.

In other news, David Letterman, who retires May 20, sat down for an interview with The New York Times where he discussed, among many other things, his replacement. He says he didn’t have a lot of say on the matter, but gave his thoughts on what he might have done if it were up to him:

I always thought Jon Stewart would have been a good choice. And then Stephen. And then I thought, well, maybe this will be a good opportunity to put a black person on, and it would be a good opportunity to put a woman on. Because there are certainly a lot of very funny women that have television shows everywhere. So that would have made sense to me as well.
