White is one of indie music’s most revered figures, a musician who would certainly go into a Coachella hall of fame inaugural class alongside the likes of Beck, Radiohead and Daft Punk. As a result, he could have walked out on Saturday night, waved to the crowd and taken his victory lap. Instead he did just the opposite, attacking the audience with drums that sounded like an explosion on songs like opening 10-minute version of the White Stripes’ “Icky Thump.” Perhaps the Weeknd closing out the main stage instead of the rocker gave White a chip on his shoulder, or maybe he just connects best with the Indio desert; whatever the reason, White was fired up on Saturday night compared to his many other festival gigs over the past two years. – [Billboard]

Jack White has been a tireless performer for the last 15 years or so, but has decided he needs a break. After his performance this weekend at Coachella, he’ll be playing acoustic shows in the five states in which he has yet to perform. The shows’ states and cities won’t be announced till the day of the performance, though it’s speculated that he’ll be playing Alaska, Idaho, the Dakotas and Wyoming. Jack will be performing as part of a quartet featuring Fats Kaplin, Lillie Mae Rische and Dominic Davis and the shows will be totally acoustic, with the only amplification being ribbon microphones. These are the first totally acoustic shows White has ever done.

Jack’s final electric set for a while will be Saturday (4/18) at Coachella. His fiery Weekend 1 set (see review above) featured songs from throughout his career and didn’t shy away from White Stripes favorites like “Hotel Yorba” and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.” You can watch video of “That Black Bat Licorice,” and check out the setlist and a few more pics from that show below.
