NYC hip hop roundup: Mobb Deep, Bodega Bamz, Joey Fatts, Smoke DZA, eMC, Kool G Rap, Cakes Da Killa & more

Bodega Bamz

As always, NYC has a good amount of upcoming local hip hop shows and tours passing through. Here’s a rundown of some of the cool stuff coming up…

Prolific local rapper Smoke DZA recently dropped the third installment of his Ringside EPs with R.F.C. producer 183rd, which you can stream or download for free below. His next hometown show happens Monday (4/6) at SOB’s with J.Y. and Tray Pizzy. Tickets are on sale.

DZA is also playing producer Harry Fraud‘s FREE party TONIGHT (4/2) at Westway with Jesse Marco, Daytona, Adrian Lau, Al-Doe and Gloss Gang. Doors are at 9, and special guests are promised. Flyer below.

One of DZA’s past collaborators, Bodega Bamz, is set to release his official debut album, Sidewalk Exec, on April 14 via 100 Keep It / Duck Down, produced entirely by V. Don. So far three songs from the album are out, “El-Rey,” “Billy Bats,” and “Bring Em Out” which features Flatbush Zombies. You can stream those below. The album also reportedly will feature the late A$AP Yams.

Bodega Bamz plays a release show for Sidewalk Exec on release day at SOB’s (4/14). Peter Rosenberg & Cipha Sounds are hosting. Tickets are on sale.

Joey Fatts and A$ton Matthews, who have toured and collaborated with several A$AP Mob members, are signed to A$AP Yams’ Yamborghini Records, and are 2/3 of the group Cutthroat Boyz with Vince Staples, are playing together on April 23 at The Studio at Webster Hall. Also on that bill is The Koolest, WavThang and Chase Manson. Tickets are on sale. Joey dropped the Ill Street Blues EP about a month ago, which you can stream below. All tour dates here.

Speaking of Vince Staples, his tour with Earl Sweatshirt hits NYC on April 18 at Best Buy Theater. Tickets are still available.

Vince and Earl’s “Hive” partner Casey Veggies was recently added as an opener to Big Sean‘s NJ show happening April 22 at Starland Ballroom (tickets). Sean also plays NYC-area fest Hot 97 Summer Jam on June 7 (tickets); and his tour with J. Cole, YG and Jeremih hits NYC on August 4 at MSG (tickets).

Also on Summer Jam is Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$ (who has a NYC show at Terminal 5 on 4/19), Meek Mill & Dej Loaf (who both play NYC on their tour with Nicki Minaj, Rae Sremmurd and Tinashe), and more.

Atlanta rapper Zach Farlow, who’s been getting some buzz, partially thanks to his work with Rich Homie Quan and others, comes to NYC on April 8 at Santos Party House. That show’s with Earlly Mac, and tickets are on sale now. Listen to his Rich Homie Quan collab, “Low,” below.

For something more old school, Masta Ace‘s group eMC (with Wordsworth and Stricklin) are releasing their first full length since their 2008 debut this year. It’s called The Tonite Show, and will be out May 5 via M3/Penalty Entertainment/Sony Red. You can watch the video for one of its singles, “Fly Thoughts” (ft. Pearl Gates), below. eMC play a release show for that album on 4/20 at SOB’s. Tickets are on sale. Masta Ace also plays a SummerStage show, but details are still TBA.

Mobb Deep

Fellow NYC vets Mobb Deep will continue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their classic The Infamous with a show on April 26 at BB King’s with Funkmaster Flex, Alchemist and Smif N Wessun. Tickets are on sale.

Smif N Wessun also play DJ Mike Nice’s 40th Birthday Bash on May 20 at Stage 48 with Kool G Rap, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, The Faculty, Royal Flush, Miilkbone, Odoub & Sean Strange, Persia, Kent Lucas, ThaRegime, D.C., J. Rebel, and Dayshawn Losey. Tickets are on sale.

One more old school New York group: Salt N Pepa play BB King’s on July 16. Tickets are on sale.

There’s also two hip hop shows happening in NYC tonight (4/2): Fetty Wap at Webster Hall for the one-year anniversary of Just Blaze’s House Party, and The Lox at The Wick. Like Masta Ace, The Lox also have a TBA SummerStage show.

As for the rest of this weekend, you can catch rapper Cakes Da Killa opening for kitschy synth pop group AVAN LAVA at Bowery Ballroom on Friday (4/3) (tickets), and that same night hip hop producer The Gaslamp Killer headlines a big lineup at Capitale with Kidnap Kid, Vashtie and many others (tickets). Cakes recently put out the new song “Serve It Up,” which you can stream below.

Other previously-discussed hip hop shows happening in NYC include Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival with Common, Shabazz Palaces, Azealia Banks, The Game (The Documentary 10th anniversary), Migos / OG Maco, Jedi Mind Tricks, Yelawolf, Tyler the Creator, Action Bronson (NJ), Kool AD, iLoveMakonnen, Black Milk, Talib Kweli / Immortal Technique, Death Grips? and more.
