Cake Shop is 10, celebrating all May with "super shows" on Fridays and Saturdays

cs10

LES venue, coffee shop, record store and general music-loving good vibes spot Cake Shop is 10 years old this month and will be celebrating with 10 “house shows” every Friday and Saturday in May, promising “extra-special power-packed” lineups. The fun starts tonight (5/1) with live band emo/pop-punk karaoke. Saturday’s show (CS10 #2) features Frankie Cosmos, No One and the Somebodies, Outside World, Marigolds and Memorial Gore. Next Friday (5/8) features Eternal Summers, Telepathic (Rob and Sarah from Bleeding Rainbow’s new band), Darlings, Plains and one more TBA.

That’s all that’s been announced so far, but Cake Shop’s May calendar also features Swedish band Les Big Byrd on 5/12, and their annual NYC Popfest show, happening 5/28 with Beverly, UK band Young Romance, Baltimore’s Wildhoney, Roman a Clef and Souvenir Stand (tickets). As for what else is in store, Cake Shop says:

In addition to all the great music we’ll be hosting, we are planning loads of surprises: one night, we may have a keg in the back, or a reading of biographies in the daytime. Another night, we might sell half-pint bottles of Jim Beam, or serve pancakes during a Sunday matinee. Perhaps we will have a mustachioed guy in a vest serving the freshest, most well-balanced cocktail you’ve ever had. Maybe that singer with the bangs you saw in Oakland last winter will be guest bartending, or the guitarist who just played at Music Hall of Williamsburg an hour before will be DJing upstairs. At times we will serve shots in plastic cups for $3, or have a food truck take over the cafe operation for the day. You’ll just have to watch for our announcements and find out!

Check Cake Shop’s calendar or twitter for updates…and happy birthday Cake Shop! We’re glad you’re still here.
