Maybe they’re older; maybe they don’t care as much; maybe they were stoned. Theatrics (or lack thereof) aside, Jane’s Addiction are still rock stars of the highest caliber, and they’re not about to let you forget it.
Always one for flamboyance, Farrell donned a flamingo jacket as the group — whose ever-evolving lineup has settled on Farrell, Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Chris Chaney — kicked off the show with the lumbering bass of Nothing’s Shocking opener “Up the Beach.” Navarro’s guitar caught fire on the expansive “Ocean Size,” from which Farrell segued into an anecdote about his father being from Bensonhurst before the punk-rock kick of “Had a Dad.” – [Village Voice]
Jane’s Addiction just finished a four-show swing through the NY area with Brooklyn noisemakers A Place to Bury Strangers that included shows at Brooklyn Bowl (5/13), NJ’s Starland Ballroom (5/15), Huntington, NY’s The Paramount (5/19) and Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre (5/19). We’ve got pictures from the Cap show in this post.
All four shows were part of Jane’s Addition’s Nothing’s Shocking tour where the band play that classic 1988 album in full. They also encored with a handful of non-Shocking hits, that came with a troupe of dancers, some of whome hung above the stage — Jim Rose-style — from hooks in their skin. It was just like the old days of Lollapalooza. The review quoted above was from the Brooklyn Bowl show which happened the same night as the big RBMA-ified Nothing Changes show at Output across the street. Perry Farrell stopped by Output to take in some Pharmakon and Prurient after Jane’s show was over.
During their run with Jane’s, APTBS also played Saturday night (5/16) at Brooklyn Night Bazaar which will close after this weekend’s shows. More pics of them and Jane’s, below…
