out-of-doors-2015

Lincoln Center Out of Doors 2015 schedule (Fiona Apple, Yo La Tengo, Lee Ranaldo, members of Nickel Creek, more)

Out of Doors

The annual Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival returns in 2015 from July 22-August 9 with free outdoor concerts at various Lincoln Center venues. Some highlights:

On August 5 at Damrosch Park Badnshell, electric guitar quartet Dither joined by Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Yo La Tengo, and then by Bang on a Can All-Stars’ Mark Stewart for Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, with experimental duo Matmos opening. Then two days later at Hearst Plaza (8/7) there’s a Denitia & Sene show, and the next night (8/8) at Damrosch Park Bandshell Watkins Family Hour will perform Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisted in full. Watkins Family Hour features Sean & Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, as well as Fiona Apple, Don Heffington, Sebastian Steinberg and special guests. Justin Townes Earle opens that show.

There’s also ex-Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür performing under his MusikSoldat moniker on July 23 at Damrosch Park Bandshell as a special guest with Botsich + Fussible, whose album Motel Baja he appears on. Country veteran Lyle Lovett plays Damrosch Park Bandshell on August 9, Randy Newman plays there on July 25, and Afropunk presents a showcase there on July 31 with Vintage Trouble, Lion Babe, The Skins and a screening of The Triptych: Wangechi Mutu. Later that same night, Rocky Horror Picture Show screens “silent” (audience will hear the sound via wireless headphones) at the same venue.
