Bang

Plenty of great metal, hardcore, and other heavy NYC shows are getting announced all the time. We don’t get a chance to write about all of them, so here’s a roundup of some of the recently-announced stuff coming up:

’70s proto-metal band Bang, who played their first-ever NYC show in 2014 and opened for Pentagram here later that year, will return to NYC again on May 10 at The Shop (234 Starr St in Bushwick). That show’s with three much newer bands who owe a lot to the ’70s hard rock scene Bang hail from, Ruby the Hatchet, Blackout and Mirror Queen. Tickets are on sale now. Show flyer below.

Maine black metallers Falls of Rauros return to NYC on June 6 at Saint Vitus with Wayfarer, Hivelords and Belus. Tickets are on sale now.

French drone doomers Monarch play Saint Vitus on August 14 with local support from the back-in-action Unearthly Trance and Gnaw (tickets).

That’s now one of three Unearthly Trance NYC shows, including Vitus on 5/24 with Samothrace & more (tickets) and Acheron on 7/17 with Churchburn & Belus (tickets).

Sludge duo Jucifer continue to tour constantly and will hit NYC on June 7 at the Acheron with Vaporizer and Family. Tickets are on sale.

Other heavy shows announced this week include GWAR, Down, Opeth, 1349 / Necrophagia / Vattnet Viskar / Black Anvil, and Power Trip / Foreseen / Red Death. Head to last week’s roundup for way more, including Slayer, Nuclear Assault, Goatwhore, Ringworm, Crowbar, Bongzilla, Conan, and The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Noisem

There’s also some good new music streaming this week. Last we posted three songs from the new Noisem album, Blossoming Decay, due June 6 via A389. Now the whole album is streaming, and it’s a thrashy, hardcore-leaning record that will seriously kick your ass. Listen below. Their tour with Iron Reagan hits NYC on June 4 at Saint Vitus. Tickets are still available.

Coliseum are also streaming their new album, Anxiety’s Kiss, which drops next week (5/5) via Deathwish. The post-hardcore/heavy punk formula they’ve been perfecting for over a decade is in full force here, as are some new sounds like the desolate Bad Seeds/Patti Smith-style trip, “Driver At Dusk.” Listen to the whole thing below. Their tour with Child Bite hits NYC on June 10 at Saint Vitus. Tickets are still available.

Vattnet Viskar put out the title track from their upcoming album, Settler, which is due June 16 via Century Media. Some of their atmospheric black metal roots are intact here, but it definitely moves far beyond black metal, including a middle section that’s closer to straight rock than metal (besides the harsh vocals). Listen below, via Stereogum. In addition to their above-mentioned NYC show with 1349 (5/31 at Vitus – tix), they also have their tour with Early Graves hitting NYC on May 21 at Saint Vitus with Anaal Nathrakh and more (tickets).

Also out now is three tracks off Weedeater‘s upcoming Steve Albini-recorded album for Season of Mist, and a new one from the Baroness-related Valkyrie. Listen to those below.
