Sam Smith getting surgery, cancels more dates (Hangout Fest & Rock in Rio included); Lollapalooza may be safe

Sam Smith

Sam Smith had to recently cancel a few dates after suffering from damaged vocal cords, and unfortunately he’s now saying he needs to go into surgery and will be gone for 6-8 more weeks. He posted the above picture.

6-8 weeks means he’ll have to cancel his appearances at Hangout Fest and Rock In Rio. Other festivals have also announced that Sam dropped off — Rock Werchter reports:

Sam Smith is forced to call off his appearance at the Rock Werchter Festival (Belgium). The young Briton has been battling with vocal cord problems and needs surgery. Sam Smith cancels all his scheduled forthcoming shows and festival performances, including his show at Rock Werchter on Saturday 27 June. The programming for Saturday will be rearranged. The festival organization wishes Sam a full and speedy recovery. Stay tuned for more news.

Denmark’s Northside Fest reports:

At the end of last month Sam Smith suffered a hemorrhage on his vocal cord, and he was forced to cancel shows in Australia, so he could rest his voice. The singer then went to the US to see a specialist, who in turn recommended en operation, which means Sam Smith isn’t allowed to sing before July at the earliest.

Hopefully that means he’ll be better by the time of Forecastle Festival, Lollapalooza, and his other July/August US dates. Those are all listed below…
