You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

METZ, FIDLAR, Grooms @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Toronto’s METZ upped their assault on our eardrums on all fronts with their second album which has better songs, better production and sharper focus. It somehow seems louder (and snottier), too, which basically ticks all the boxes of what you want from a record like this. Their tour with party boys FIDLAR is a bit odd, except that both groups turn crowds into a sweaty mess. They’re alternating headline slots, with METZ headlining tonight. (FIDLAR headline’s last night’s Bowery show.) If you’re going to this show, don’t miss local openers Grooms whose new album, Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair, is terrific.

Pat Jordache, Vesuvio Solo @ Elvis Guesthouse
Over the last three years, Pat Jordache has transformed from arty indie rock into a paranoid party band, with liquid bass, sinewy funk, and sonar dub. If you dig The Pop Group (or Mark Stewart’s solo work), Japan, or classic 4AD band The Wolfgang Press, Pat Jordache is successfully mining a similar vein.

Screaming Females Q&A w/ Ted Leo & performance @ Apple Store
Screaming Females have two NYC appearances this week, this being the first. It’s free, and in addition to performing, Screaming Females will give a Q&A with Ted Leo. They play NYC again tomorrow at the BV-presented ‘Chris Gethard Show’ premiere party.

Pixies, John Grant @ Beacon Theatre
While it’s not quite the same without Kim Deal, Pixies continue on, delivering the hits. If you’re going to this show, we highly recommend you get there for opener John Grant, whose funny, sad songs and and magnetic stage presences is not to be missed.

Torres, Aero Flynn @ Baby’s All Right
Torres’ new album has her diving even further into heavy rock territory at some parts, but also incorporates somber folk-inspired songs, art pop and more. Tonight’s her first of three upcoming NYC shows in support of it.

Portal, Impetuous Ritual, Negative Plane @ Saint Vitus
Australian death metal band Portal and related band Impetuous Ritual just wreaked havoc on Maryland Deathfest this past weekend, and now they bring their insanity (and masks) to NYC.

Future Brown, 3D Na’Tee, Maluca, mikeQ, Rizzla @ Output
Future Brown is the dance music “supergroup” of Fatima Al Qadiri, Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda of Nguzunguzu and Lit City Trax’s J-Cush. Their debut album came out earlier this year on Warp.

The Catenary Wires @ Rough Trade
Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey are indiepop icons who have been at the heart of much-loved groups such as Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research, and Tender Trap. Their latest musical venture is The Catenary Wires. Where previous bands have been decidedly poppy and brash, The Catenary Wires make melancholic folk, but still with their knack for melodies. This is a free show, no purchase of any kind is required, and they’ll

Cassie Ramone, My Teenage Stride, Fletcher C. Johnson, Unhappy Mondays @ Shea Stadium
This is a solid bill of local bands, including onetime Vivian Girl and Babies singer Cassie Ramone, solid garage rocker Fletcher C. Johnson and underrated indiepop band My Teenage Stride who don’t play out enough for us these days. Opening act Unhappy Mondays claim to be the ” 2nd greatest Happy Mondays cover band.”

Marcos Valle with Carlos Lyra @ Birdland
Brazil’s Marcos Valle has had a long career, stretching back to the ’60s. But he may be best known now for his 1982 single “Estrellar” which was used in a Southern Comfort ad shown a lot during last year’s World Cup telecasts. Fans of samba, bossa nova, jazz, disco and kitschy fun take note — he’s at Birdland through Saturday.

STUDIO TALK: REVOLUTIONS ON-AIR with Tony Humphries, Marley Marl, DJ Red Alert, Merlin Bobb @ Red Bull Studios New York
Red Bull Music Academy‘s annual month-long NYC takeover comes to an end this week with just three more events. The next one is STUDIO TALK: REVOLUTIONS ON-AIR, happening tonight, and like all of their events, it should be an interesting one. NYC radio legends Tony Humphries, Marley Marl, DJ Red Alert, and Merlin Bobb will be gathered in one room to have a discussion about NYC in the 80s, and the short documentary they all appear in (watch it below).
