The reunited Luna played their first NYC show in 10 years on Thursday (6/11) in Williamsburg’s McCarren Park, which also served to kick off the music portion of the 2015 Northside Festival. Their set began with the memorable bassline of “Slide” (the first song from their debut album, Lunapark) which started a parade of favorites that included “California (All the Way),” “Tiger Lily,” “Lost in Space,” “23 Minutes in Brussels” and “Chinatown.” Their set also included an audience sing-a-long of “Happy Birthday” for bassist Britta Phillips and a closing cover of Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer.” Dean Wareham was in good spirits, pointing out buildings in the Manhattan skyline and friends in the crowd, and remarking on the muggy heat. It was indeed very hot but no complaints other than I personally could’ve stood to hear more songs (“Slash Your Tires,” “Superfreaky Memories,” “This Time Around” perhaps?) but there’s always next time. Pictures and setlist are in this post.

The free show (no one was checking RSVPS, you could just walk in, by the way) was opened by the jammy instrumental act Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band. Pics from their set, and more from Luna, below…
