Dick Diver

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, Flatbush ZOMBiES, The Underachievers, Phony PPL, Smoke DZA, Dyme A Duzin, 22 Love, SMTH, DJs Statik Selektah and Powers Pleasant @ Central Park SummerStage
After a few years of promising mixtapes, Joey Bada$$ put out his debut album, B4.DA.$$, this year, and it’s got his ’90s-inspired style sounding great without being obvious idol worship. Basically everyone on this bill is also great, so make sure to show up on time (show goes from 6-10 PM).

Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers @ Highline Ballroom
After the Central Park show, a chunk of the lineup heads to Highline Ballroom for an afterparty. 11:15 PM doors.

Dick Diver, Lightning Bug @ Baby’s All Right
Australia’s Dick Diver are in the fine jangly tradition of The Go-Betweens, making heartfelt guitar pop with just enough rust on the edges. This is their second of two NYC shows.

“An Evening with Death Grips” @ Webster Hall
Notorious show cancellers and supposedly broken up rap group Death Grips have been on tour, and as these real, not fake photos prove, they’re actually playing shows! We still have no idea what will happen at tonight’s show, but if you bought tickets (and a lot of you did — it’s sold out), good luck!

Girlpool, Alex G, Frankie Cosmos, Hello Shark @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
If you’re into the current wave of DIY indie rock, this whole bill is likely up your alley. There’s the socially conscious unison-singing of Girlpool, the deadpan pop of Alex G, the twee-ish folk of Frankie Cosmos, and the slowcore-ish folk of Hello Shark.

Goatwhore, Ringworm, Black Breath, Theories @ Saint Vitus
After playing Vitus last night, this stacked metal bill does it again at the same venue tonight. NOLA vets Goatwhore headline, Ringworm and Black Breath bring the high-quality metallic hardcore in the middle, and deathgrind newcomers Theories start things off.

Stephen Stills @ City Winery
It’s been a pretty busy summer for CSNY members in NYC, with Croz passing through not long ago and Uncle Neil on the way soon. Tonight though, it’s Stephen Stills, who in addition to CSNY, has Buffalo Springfield, Manassas, his own great solo career and more to pull from.

Alex Winston, Mainland @ Mercury Lounge
Alex Winston has been following her 2012 quirky pop debut King Con with singles and an EP that kind of drop the “quirky” part of that description. The newest is this past June’s The Day I Died.

“Ask me Another” with Ellie Kemper @ Bell House
Another in NPR’s “Ask Me Another” live quiz show tapings, tonight features the very charming Ellie Kemper of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Office.

Julie Klausner @ Joe’s Pub
The very funny host of How Was Your Week and star of soon-to-premiere show Difficult People (with Bill Eichner), Julie Klauser tonight will be singing “some goddamn songs in her cabaret show. Don’t expect anything besides complete and utter magic on this very special evening of music and comedic banter.”

Bridget Everett: Rock Bottom @ Joe’s Pub
Right after Julie it’s Bridget Everett with her acclaimed show ‘Rock Botton.’ Shy folks might want to either a) not sit too close to the stage or b) go at all. Everyone else: Bridget’s a riot.
