Afropunk Festival reveals schedule via app, more fest details

Afropunk

Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival goes down August 22-23 in Commodore Barry Park and today they released the festival app for Android and iOS. Through August 10, the app is the only place to see the festival schedule, and the first 100 people who download the app will get a 15% discount on weekend GA tickets.

The festival includes Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Kelis, Danny Brown, Suicidal Tendencies, Kele, Thundercat, Death Grips, Gary Clark Jr., Kelela, Candiria, Lenny Kravitz and more. Will Lenny have any surprises in store for us this time?

AFROPUNK AFTER DARK
A series of official after-parties in Brooklyn will continue the AFROPUNK Music Festival experience outside the festival grounds and late into the night. From The Striver Row poetry slam, an Every Day People Midnight Brunch – launching a limited edition print collaboration by Naturel and Soulection, to an The Amanda Seales comedy show and film screenings presented by Black Radical Imagination. AFROPUNK AFTER DARK will ensure that the party does not end when the last musician leaves the AFROPUNK festival stage. Featuring parties from Azucar, Electric Punanny, Ting and Ting (DJ Kitty Cash + DJ Kellz), the full list and schedule of events is listed below and is sponsored by Coors Light, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry, Red Bull and MARP.

Activism Row
One of the best things about the AFROPUNK festival is its community driven initiatives. Activism Row as an interactive site-specific educational installation featuring grassroots non-profits that attempt to solve urgent community problems. Activism Row’s goal is to inform youth about civic participation opportunities, as well as encourage the festival’s multicultural audience to envision themselves making a difference. Activism Row shows the many ways in which activism lives today in communities of color. Participating organizations include: Africa’s Out, Brownsville Multi-Service Family Center, LiveOnNY, Sane Energy, Aids Health Care Foundation, Food Bank for NYC, Care More and many more.

Bites&Beats
The Bites&Beats is an event within the event, combining tastes from around the world with 25+ food trucks and pop-up restaurants that include: Jeepney, Cafe Habanna, Monk Meats, Mr Cutters, Asia Dog, Madiba, Hill Country BBQ, Mrs. Dorseys Kitchen, Brooklyn Soda Works , Home Frite, Melt, Tipsy Scoops and Snowday, Sweet Chili, Nuchas, Sun Rise Grill and Palenque food trucks.

Earned Ticket
Festival goers still have the opportunity to earn tickets to attend AFROPUNK Fest 2015. The festival has released additional tickets through their earned ticket program, which aims to provide low barrier volunteer activities and projects for people to complete in exchange for tickets to the music festival.

To earn free tickets to the biggest music event in Brooklyn, interested parties can sign up for the #IAMTHEMANY campaign. ACT/ART, The White House and AFROPUNK have joined forces to help raise awareness around the critical need for criminal justice reform and the creation of policies that assert the universal right to justice, humanity and freedom for our multiracial communities. The first 500 people to register and participate in this initiative will receive (1) single day GA ticket to the festival. For more info and to sign up: www.afropunkfest.com/i-am-the-many
