Grooms

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Grooms, Parlor Walls, Faten Kanaan @ Shea Stadium
They’ll soon be on a multi-continent tour with former Death by Audio roommates A Place to Bury Strangers, but Brooklyn’s underrated guitar twisters Grooms will be limbering up their road muscles tonight.

Cult of Luna, Kylesa, InAeona @ Gramercy Theatre
It’s an excellent double bill of boundary-pushing heavy music with Swedish post-metal band Cult of Luna, and the more psychedelic Kylesa who have a new album on the way.

Ricky Eat Acid, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Field Trip, Crazy and The Brains @ The Studio at Webster Hall
This bill brings all kinds of genres together, including ambient electronic from Ricky Eat Acid, rowdy post-punk from Ed Schrader’s Music beat, and punk with a xylophone player (it works!) from Crazy & the Brains.

The Vaccines @ Rough Trade (two shows)
UK guitar poppers The Vaccines, who just released new album English Graffiti a few months ago, usually play places much, much bigger than Rough Trade. Needless to say, both of tonight’s shows are sold out.

The Cannanes, Pale Lights, The Hairs @ Alphaville
Australian DIY pop royalty, The Cannanes have been making charmingly shambolic music since the ’80s. This is the final show of their U.S. tour, they don’t play this side of the world very often, so don’t miss this chance to see them.

Jen Kirkman, Allison Castillo @ Bowery Ballroom
If you’ve watched Kirkman’s popular Netflix special I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine), over and over, fret not. On this tour she promises “mostly new material with only maybe 25% from my Netflix special”

Cake Shop Comedy @ Cake Shop
If you miss Big Terrific and Hannibal Buress’ Sunday night show at Knit, and are looking for a new free, weekly comedy show that happens in a rock club and sometimes has big name talent stop by unexpectedly, “Cake Shop Comedy” might do the trick. (Aziz Ansari  and Louis CK have both stopped by in recent weeks.) 8 PM.
