Kirin J Callinan shares new single "The Teacher" featuring Connan Mockasin, playing CMJ shows

Kirin J Callinan

Aussie wildcard Kirin J Callinan will release his second album sometime in 2016 via Terrible. The first single is “The Teacher” and features frequent cohort Connan Mockasin. Where his debut, Embracism, was all guttural growls and distorted electronics, this songs is an ’80s-style torch song with slippery, fretless bass that has more in common with Kirin’s work in Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders. You can stream it below.

Kirin spends a fair ammount of time in NYC and is here this week playing a few shows, including two today (10/16):

Friday 10/16 (4 PM) @ Elvis Guesthouse: Graceland Party w/ Whitney, Mild High Club, Jimmy Whispers, Sean Nicholas Savage, Joy Again, Murals (FREE)

Friday 10/16 @ Cameo Gallery (midnight): Terrible Records CMJ Party w/ LE1F, Empress Of, Porches, Deradoorian, Okay Kaya, Jimmy Whispers, Kaya, Stolen Jars (more info)

Saturday 10/17 @ The Delancey (2 PM): Aussie BBQ w/ Methyl Ethel, Surf Rock is Dead, Lord Fascinator, The Harpoons and 33 (!) more (FREE)

Speaking of the Dreamlanders, they’ll be playing more North American shows in December.
