What's going on Sunday? (Lilys, Dillinger Four, Tony Castles, Blitzen Trapper, Jucifer, Beauty Pill, Tiswas, Deaf Wish, more)

Lilys

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Lilys, LightHeat @ Baby’s All Right
Kurt Heasley brings his Lilys moniker out of retirement for two shows this weekend that will highlight the band’s early ’90s shoegaze years when they cranked out fuzzpop like “Ginger” and “The Hermit Crab.” (They played both on Friday.) Under musical direction from Don Devore, the band features FIVE guitarists (one being pedal steel) including members of Ducktails, MGMT, Sea & Cake and more.

Blitzen Trapper, The Domestics @ Bowery Ballroom
Folk rockers Blitzen Trapper put out a new album earlier this month on Vagrant, which followed a live cover album of Neil Young’s Harvest from earlier this year. Tonight their tour hits NYC.

Dillinger Four, Night Birds, Iron Chic, Big Eyes @ Saint Vitus
Melodic punk greats Dillinger Four haven’t played NYC in years, so it’s exciting that they’re finally returning this weekend for two shows. Both have killer like-minded openers too. Sold out.

Deaf Wish, Shop Talk @ Alphaville
Their name is no joke: Australia’s Deaf Wish are one of the loudest bands around and will pummel your eardrums senseless. In a good way, of course. Not wearing earplugs would be a mistake, though.

Tony Castles, Cosmonaut, Nicholas Nicholas, Warbly Jets, DJ Dylan Rau (Bear Hands) @ Elvis Guesthouse
Underrated Brooklynites the Tony Castles disappeared there for a while but are back with a new album, Ironed Out.

Algiers, Bambara @ Rough Trade
Algiers released their self-titled debut album via Matador earlier this year, which showcases their gothy, gospel-inflected, politically minded sound.

Tiswas 20th Anniversary Party @ The Bowery Electric
Founded in 1995, Tiswas was the Britpop party in NYC for a long time, it’s heyday probably the late-’90s/early-’00s period at Don Hill’s. Tiswas stopped being a weekly party in the late ’00s but has thrown the occasional event since, and tonight celebrates its 20th Anniversary with regular DJs Nick Marc and regular spinners Justine D and Spiky Phil, plus emcee and hosts Michael T., Ultragrrrl, and Omri S. Quire, as well as guest sets from Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls, Josh Styles, Alix Brown and a “surprise” live performance.

Jucifer, Serial Hawk, It’s Not Night, It’s Space @ The Acheron
The very busy sludge duo Jucifer headline this show. They’re sure to be great as always, but also don’t miss Seattle doomers Serial Hawk who just put out a great new album.

Mondo Generator, Peter Pan Speedrock, Geezer, Vic and The Babes @ The Bowery Electric
Nick Oliveri may be more popular for his time in Kyuss and QOTSA, but he’s also led the band Mondo Generator since the late ’90s. They return to NYC tonight.

Beauty Pill, Leapling @ Union Hall
Beauty Pill were formed in the early 2000s by a member of the great Dischord band Smart Went Crazy, and they released their debut album on that label in 2004. It took them until this year to follow it though, and they still sound good.
