Mr Twin Sister

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Grimes, Nicole Dollanganger @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Grimes’ new album Art Angels is in some ways a natural progression from Visions but it also explores a ton of new ground. It’s great stuff and it sounds like it’s gonna be very fun live. Opening is Nicole Dollanganger, who Grimes recently signed to her new label.

The Weeknd, Banks, Travi$ Scott @ Barclays Center
The Weeknd is bigger than ever — perhaps you’ve heard “Can’t Feel My Face” in a car or a bar or a party or just about anywhere else — and tonight he plays his third of four NYC-area arena shows.

Antibalas, Raja Kassis’s HUMANBEING, Lee Fields, Will Holland @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn afrobeat band Antibalas continue their Brooklyn Bowl residency tonight. Each show has different openers, and this one includes soul great Lee Fields (going strong since the ’60s) and more.

Hudson Mohawke, The-Dream, Nick Hook, Kitty Cash, Matt FX, Hiyawatha @ Webster Hall
Scottish beatmaker Hudson Mohawke has been having a very fruitful career, as a quality solo artist, one half of the duo TNGHT, and a contributor to more than one Kanye West album. Tonight’s special guest is R&B singer The-Dream, who’s also busy with both solo material and co-writing for other musicians (like Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara and more).

Turquoise Jeep, Oxymorrons, Pants Velour, Kosha Dillz, DJ Buzy @ Marlin Room at Webster Hall
This is quite a diverse rap show, with YouTube sensations Turquoise Jeep, other artists on the novelty side (Pants Velour and Kosha Dillz), and ’90s-inspired Queens crew Oxymorrons.

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide, Joe Rumrill @ Union Hall
Chris Gethard does another of his Career Suicide shows, which focus on “suicide, alcoholism, and all the other funniest parts of life.” Tonight’s guest is another standup comedian, Joe Rumrill.

!!! (chk chk chk), Stereolad, Eaters @ Bowery Ballroom
!!! (chk chk chk) are always fun live but coming off their strongest record in a while — this year’s As If — tonight’s show should be especially good. Note: Stereolad is actually most of !!! playing as a Stereolab cover band. Electronic duo Eaters open.

Antibalas, Lee Fields @ Brooklyn Bowl
This is the final show of Antibalas’ four-week residency at Brooklyn Bowl with the great Lee Fields as special guest.

Mr. Twin Sister, Ava Luna & special guest @ Cameo Gallery
Only four more nights of Cameo left and this one should be pretty good, with Mr. Twin Sister and their friends Ava Luna as well. Perhaps we’ll get a string section tonight? Any guesses on who the Very Special Guests are?

Wesley Stace’s Cabinet of Wonders, Advance Base, Jami Attenberg, Tanya Donelly, Jon Glaser, Steven Page, Will Sheff (of Okkervil River), Bobby Tisdale @ City Winery
It’s the November edition of Wesley Stace’s variety show Cabinet of Wonders, with a pretty great lineup, including onetime Throwing Muses / Belly singer and guitarist Tanya Donelly, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, comedians Jon Glaser and Bobby Tisdale, and more.

LODRO, Dead Stars, Zuli @ Living Room
Brooklyn’s dark, moody LODRO have an album in the can that still awaits release. Get a preview tonight, with ’90s indie rock torchbearers Dead Stars on the bill as well

Joan As Police Woman, Domino Kirke, Chime Wisely @ Manhattan Inn
Joan Wasser’s most recent album as Joan as Policewoman was last year’s The Classic. She’s got a new project called 2001 as well, but find out what’s cookin’ tonight. Free show though there’s a $10 suggested donation.

Diane Coffee, Boulevards @ Mercury Lounge
Diane Coffee, aka Foxygen drummer Shaun Fleming, released his new album, Everybody’’s A Good Dog, earlier this year and it takes aim at 1973, squashing Bowie, Elton John, The Stones, Todd Rundgren and a giant bag of glitter into his theatrical worldview.

Beech Creeps, Heaven’s Gate, Conduit @ Silent Barn
It’s a noisy night at Silent Barn with dissonant Beech Creeps and the shoegazy rock of Heaven’s Gate.
