Almost one year to the day of Death by Audio’s final night, it’s the swan song for Williamsburg’s Cameo Gallery. The early show is headlined by venerable NYC band Caveman.

Okkervil River @ Bowery Ballroom
Okkervil River’s acclaimed album Black Sheep Boy turns 10 this year and the band are celebrating with a tour where they’re playing it live in full. This is the first of three nights at Bowery Ballroom. Sold out.
Peelander-Z, Math the Band @ Alphaville
Japanese sci-fi anime punks Peelander-Z have been playing for nearly two decades. With a new documentary out about the band, it’s probably a good time to catch them.
Harmonica Lewinskies, No One & The Somebodies, Quarterbacks (solo), Bambara, Evolfo, Parlor Walls, Glueboy, The Regrets, No Ice, & more @ Aviv
Greenpoint DIY venue Aviv celebrates its one-year anniversary tonight with a big lineup of bands that starts early and keeps going.
Small Black, Painted Palms @ Baby’s All Right
Brooklyn band Small Black just released their latest widescreen synthpop creation, Best Blues, via Jagjaguwar. This is their second of two nights at Baby’s All Right.
Olof Dreijer (of The Knife – DJ Set), Secret Special Guest @ Baby’s All Right
The Knife are sadly broken up, but both members are keeping busy with other projects. Olof is now a member of the band Hiya wal Âalam, who play NYC on Monday, but tonight he DJs Baby’s with a secret special guest. Who could it be?
Kevin Gates, Geaux Yella, Jay Lewis, OG Boobie Black @ Gramercy Theatre
Kevin Gates has been releasing a steady stream of quality mixtapes/albums for a few years now, and he’s got a great sing/rap style that isn’t quite like anyone else’s right now.
Beat Connection, Phantoms @ Knitting Factory
Seattle’s Beat Connection began life as more of a DFA style dancerock but have shifted into more soulful, R&B-flavored territory on new album Product 3.
HEALTH, Pictureplane @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
HEALTH tone down the noise a bit (but not completely) on their terrific new album Death Magic, which is the catchiest thing they’ve done yet. They didn’t “go pop” though; it’s still very weird. Pictureplane is a great fit to open the show.
Priests, Shopping, Arm Candy @ Palisades
UK act Shopping, who draw influence from post-punk acts like Delta 5 and The Slits, were one of the highlights of CMJ this year. They make for a good pairing with DC’s fiery Priests. This will be a fun night at Palisades.
King Diamond, Exodus @ Playstation Theater
What would theatrical, high-voiced wailing metal be without King Diamond? Probably a lot worse. He wraps up a three-night run at Playstation Theater tonight playing his classic 1987 album, Abigail, in full. Thrash vets Exodus open.
Infest, The Boston Strangler, NYC Headhunters, Violent Bullshit @ The Acheron
Influential hardcore band Infest were initially around in the late ’80s and early ’90s, and helped pioneer what became known as powerviolence. Their first NYC shows ever happened last year, and this week they play two more. This is the second.
Skinless, Abnormality, Hypoxia @ Saint Vitus
New York death metal vets Skinless got back together in 2013, and this year they released Only the Ruthless Remain, their first album since 2006.
Ancient Sky, Worthless, Smokey DeRoeck @ Shea Stadium
Brooklyn heavy psych practitioners Ancient Sky released their new album, Mosaic, over the summer but are now calling it quits. Tonight’s their final show.
Elysian Fields @ The Owl
Long-running NYC band Elysian Fields are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a run of shows where they’re performing their entire catalog live. Tonight is the last of the seven shows, featuring 2014’s For House Cats And Sea Fans.
Hot Tuna & Friends @ Beacon Theatre
Jorma Kaukonen turns 75 next month, and he’s celebrating that birthday with a two-night run of Hot Tuna shows at the Beacon. This is the second night.
Matt Pond PA, Laura Stevenson, Completions @ Webster Hall – Marlin Room
Long-running indie rockers Matt Pond PA released The State of Gold this year and they’re celebrating that on the road with Laura Stevenson, whose punky new album Cocksure on Don Giovanni is also very good.
Dogs on Acid @ Rough Trade
Dogs On Acid recently released their debut album on Jade Tree, though it sounds more like the kind of indie rock you would’ve heard coming out in the early ’90s on Merge. Today they play a free afternoon in-store at Rough Trade.
Brian Wilson & Al Jardine @ Bergen PAC
The mastermind behind The Beach Boys’ brilliance, Brian Wilson, returns to NJ tonight with fellow ex-Beach Boy Al Jardine in tow.
Fox Millions Duo, New Pope, Jeremy Smoking Band @ Trans Pecos
Fans of intense drumming take note: Liturgy drummer Greg Fox and Oneida drummer Kid Millions are the collaborative Fox Millions Duo and they take over Trans-Pecos tonight.
Flamin’ Groovies @ WFMU Monty Hall
Powerpop legends Flamin’ Groovies are back with guitarist Chris Wilson and a barrelful of good time, hook-filled classics. Next year’s their 50th anniversary.
