Beach Slang

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Beach Slang, Tim Kasher, Field Mouse @ Knitting Factory
BV is proudly-presenting this sold-out show co-headlined by Beach Slang and Cursive frontman Tim Kasher, with openers Field Mouse. Beach Slang were one of our favorite new bands of last year, and this year’s debut album for Polyvinyl had them sounding as cathartic and life-affirming as ever.

Raekwon, Dave East, Kris Kasanova, Lafayette Stokely, Wordsmiff @ SOB’s
Raekwon spent most of this year celebrating the 20th anniversary of his legendary Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. No idea what the setlist will be like tonight, but with those songs fresh in his head, we can probably count on hearing a good chunk of them.

Squeeze (Acoustic Show) @ Playstation Theater
One of the best songwriting teams of the last 40 years, Squeeze frontmen Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook will mix favorites from throughout their career with stories about the songs.

Talib Kweli (host & DJ), NIKO IS, K’Valentine, Chaz Van Queen, Narcy @ Brooklyn Bowl
It’s the ‘Indie 500’ (same name as Talib Kweli’s new album) Holiday Extravaganza tonight with host and DJ Talib Kweli. A bunch of his friends are playing live sets, and it wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary if he ended up doing some rapping too.

Tribute to Joni Mitchell w/ Jen Goma, Damon McMahon, Xander Duell, Miles Francis, Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman), Aerial East, Noah Hecht, Ryan Dugre, TEEN @ Manhattan Inn
Joni Mitchell was hospitalized earlier this year and is reportedly recovering. We have our fingers crossed that she gets better soon, but in the meantime we can enjoy her music performed by this pretty impressive lineup tonight.

Joan As Police Woman @ The Owl
Before she heads to Manhattan Inn for the Joni Mitchell tribute, Joan Wasser will perform as Joan as Policewoman at this new, very tiny Brooklyn venue tonight.

The Symptoms (Laurie Anderson, Kid Millions, Tony Diodore) @ Secret Project Robot
It was just a few weeks ago that Laurie Anderson was presenting her ambitious installation at “Habeas Corpus” at Park Avenue Armory, and here she is in a much different environment as part of trio The Symptoms which includes Oneida’s Kid Millions.

Will Butler, Jo Firestone, Hearing Things @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Having released his solo debut earlier this year, Arcade Fire’s Will Butler wraps up his 2015 with this holiday show featuring comedian Jo Firestone and sax-fueled surf-rockers Hearing Things.

James Murphy (DJ Set), Eric Duncan (DJ Set) @ Output
He spends most of his time on beverages these days (his line of coffee and Williamsburg wine bar) but James Murphy still likes to spin records every once and a while.

Bayside, Cheap Girls, Worriers @ Gramercy Theatre
Bayside headline this show, but we especially recommend catching the openers: the Smoking Popes-esque Cheap Girls and politically driven pop punks Worriers.

San Fermin, Sam Amidon @ Bowery Ballroom
Chamber pop ensemble San Fermin wrap up their tour with three consecutive nights at Bowery Ballroom. This is the fist and is opened by occasional collaborator Sam Amidon.
