Big Grams (Big Boi & Phantogram) @ Irving Plaza
Outkast’s Big Boi and pop duo Phantogram first collaborated on Big Boi’s 2012 album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (including the great “Lines”), and now they’ve became a full-blown collaborative duo called Big Grams. They have an EP out now, and you can probably expect to hear stuff off that, Vicious Lies, and maybe even more.
Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (of Liturgy), Happy Place, Iktus @ Shea Stadium
Liturgy released their not-very-metal but still-pretty-good album The Ark Work earlier this year. Frontman Hunter Hunt-Hendrix plays a solo show tonight — who knows what he has in store?
Chris Gethard, Katie Ellen (mem Chumped) @ Union Hall
The very funny Chris Gethard does another of his ‘Career Suicide’ shows tonight, “an hour of stand up focusing on suicide, alcoholism, and all the other funniest parts of life.” Katie Ellen, aka 1/2 of Chumped (who are on indefinite hiatus), are tonight’s musical guests.
Cassie Ramone, OJ Economy Eyeballs, Willy Muse, Godxss @ Alphaville
Cassie Ramone’s new holiday album Christmas in Reno is “at once an ode to the nostalgic merriment of Christmas and a nod to the pain and desolation of the American holiday season.” Celebrate its release tonight.
Borts Minorts, The Cast of Cats (Timo Ellis), Sugerlife, BNDL @ Grand Victory
Is Borts Minorts performance art or a rock band? Can’t it be both? Funny, 100% strange and unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Even if you’ve seen him before. Timo Ellis, who plays tonight as The Cast of Cats, curated the whole night and says “this will be a bona fide NEW YORK FUCKING EXPERIENCE.”
Justin Vivian Bond: Angels We Have Heard When High @ Joe’s Pub
Part of the year-long Justin Vivian Bond retrospective at Joe’s Pub, it’s JVB’s Holiday Extravaganza where he invites you to “pull your twinkles from the box, dust off your balls, and grab that MDMA you hid behind your tree for ’tis the season to get lit, tune in, turn on and listen to THE VOICES OF AN ANGEL!”
Night Train feat. Wyatt Cenac, Dan St. Germain, Yamaneika Saunders, Donwill (DJ Set) @ Littlefield
All aboard Wyatt Cenac’s weekly comedy cavalcade, tonight featuring guests Sasheer Zamata, Dan St. Germain, Carolyn Castiglia, Marcus Monroe, J.D. Amato, and more.
Los Lobos @ City Winery
Together for over 40 years, legendary LA band Los Lobos continue strong and remain a force live. Their annual City Winery holiday residency continues tonight.
