A$AP Rocky, A$AP Mob, Joey Bada$$, Flatbush Zombies, A$ton Matthews, Lil Uzi Vert @ Terminal 5 (Yams Day)
A$AP Mob founder A$AP Yams sadly passed away on January 18, 2015, and this show on the one-year anniversary of his death is a celebration of his life. The lineup is stacked, with the group’s most visible member A$AP Rocky and the rest of the A$AP Mob (Ferg isn’t billed but it seems possible that he’ll show up — tonight’s an off-night on his tour), fellow New New York greats Joey Bada$$ and Flatbush Zombies, Vince Staples associate A$ton Matthews, and up-and-coming Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert.
Guy Blakeslee, Holy Sons, J.R. Bohannon @ Baby’s All Right
While Guy Blakeslee is usually making quality psych rock as frontman of The Entrance Band, his new solo release is an entirely instrumental guitar record. He plans on playing a bit of both tonight. The equally psychedelic Holy Sons (mem Om, Grails) make for a great pairing.
Big Daddy Kane @ BB King Blues Club
A staple of New York rap since the ’80s, the city’s rich history as we know it wouldn’t be the same without Big Daddy Kane. He celebrates MLK Day with this show, which has him backed by a full band.
Ty Segall ‘Emotional Mugger’ listening party @ Wild Kingdom
Celebrate the release of Ty Segall’s new album at this free listening party featuring gratis Superiority Burger grub, and a performance of the album by The Emotional Desperados…which is not Ty (he’s in San Francisco).
Nigh Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
Wyatt Cenac does his weekly Night Train comedy show tonight, with help from local favorite Eugene Mirman, as well as Brooks Wheelan, Seaton Smith, Marina Franklin, Giulia Rozzi, Nimesh Patel and Matt Wayne.
