Bruce Springsteen

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band @ Madison Square Garden
The Boss is celebrating his classic 1980 double album The River this year by playing the whole thing start to finish. He’s promising other favorites too, which he’s got plenty of. This is now his first of two MSG shows, as the 1/24 show was postponed due to weather. He also plays NJ.

Joan Baez, Paul Simon, Mavis Staples, Richard Thompson, Jackson Browne, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins & more @ Beacon Theater
Folk veteran Joan Baez celebrates her 75th birthday with this show, and it’s stacked with very impressive guests. There’s songwriting legend Paul Simon, soul great Mavis Staples, British folk musician Richard Thompson, country singer Emmylou Harris, another veteran folk singer, Judy Collins, and many more.

Soda, B Boys, Special Guest Headliner @ Baby’s All Right
While Baby’s still hasn’t announced the secret guest headliner for tonight’s show, we do know about the openers: Florida’s Soda just released an EP through Dull Tool’s (the label run by Parquet Courts’ Andrew Savage); and B Boys sound more than a little like Chairs Missing-era Wire and will release their debut EP via Captured Tracks. 11 PM show. UPDATE: Parquet Courts are the headliner. Some tickets will be available at doors.

The Weather Station, Will Stratton @ Baby’s All Right
Earlier in the night at Baby’s: Toronto artist Tamara Lindeman has been making music under the name The Weather Station for some time now and released the gorgeous, pastoral Loyalty last year that garnered a lot of Joni Mitchell comparisons.

Neon Indian, Future Punx @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Having survived Chillwave, Neon Indian has become even more popular without changing his melted-’80s sound too much. Tonight’s free show, sponsored by Converse Rubber Tracks, is sold out, but if you’re going do get there early for the very fun Future Punx.

Muse, X Ambassadors @ Barclays Center
Few bands embrace bombast and cheese the way Muse do, a band who have never seen “more” as a four-letter word. (They also seem in on the joke.) If you can embrace the cheese as well, their grand guignol live show can be fun.

Big Boi (DJ Set), TM88 (DJ Set), Christian Rich @ Output
OutKast’s Big Boi was here last month playing with his new group Big Grams (aka Big Boi and Phantogram), and now he returns to DJ. He clearly knows how to throw a party, so tonight should be fun. UPDATE: Moved to March 30.

Iamsu!, Ishdarr, Stro @ SOB’s
California rapper Iamsu! has been working on his upcoming album Kilt 3 and dropping a lot of addictive songs along the way (like “Famous” ft. Dej Loaf, for example). Maybe we’ll hear some more new stuff, and hopefully some older favorites, tonight.

Tengger Cavalry, Gothic Knights, Winter’s Wake @ Saint Vitus
Mongolian folk metal band Tengger Cavalry are just as eccentric as you’d expect. Fresh off becoming the third metal-related band to ever play Carnegie Hall, they now return to metal club Saint Vitus.

Buster Pointdexter @ Cafe Carlyle
New York Doll singer David Johansen puts back on the tux and his party-friendly Buster Poindexter persona for a night of saucy cabaret at this fancypants supper club.

Risk! feat. Kevin Allison, A.D. Miles, Kurt Braunohler, Lauren Cook, Julie Halston @ Bell House
“Risk,” the podcast by onetime member of The State Kevin Allison, convinces people to “tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share.” Kurt Braunohler highlights the guests lined up for this live taping.
