Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White, RIP

Maurice White

Earth, Wind & Fire founding member Maurice White has died at age 74. The group formed in 1969 and became one of the biggest bands of the ’70s with hits such as “Shining Star,” “September”, “Boogie Wonderland,” “After the Love Has Gone” and “Let’s Groove.” White had been battling Parkinson disease for more than 20 years and bowed out of touring in 1994. (The band remain active and are touring with Chicago later this year.) His brother, Verdine, posted on EW&F’s Facebook:

My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep. While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

Yours Truly,
Verdine White
