Fetty Wap / Post Malone & 50 Cent
Fetty Wap is currently on tour in support of his unstoppable hits-filled 2015 debut album, and he stopped by NYC this week for sold-out Irving Plaza shows on Tuesday (2/9) and last night (2/10). I got there last night just as opener Post Malone was finishing up. For both nights he brought out 50 Cent, who was doing “What Up Gangsta” as I got in. 50’s new material isn’t so hot but he still brings it live on those old favorites. Then Post Malone finished up with his hit “White Iverson” (which he had also played earlier in the set). I’m still not 100% sure what to make of this guy, but no question that song gets stuck in your head and everytime he put the mic down the crowd sang it for him.
Fetty didn’t waste much time at all getting on stage (he was actually seven minutes early). His DJ came out right after Post Malone left, and after warming the crowd up, they played a video on the big screen about Fetty’s pre-fame roots. Then Fetty took the stage and delivered nonstop for his 40-ish minute set. Fetty hardly has any songs that aren’t hits. Even the ones that didn’t technically crack the Top 40 are addictive and as last night’s show proved, a lot of people know all the words. We got “679,” “Jugg,” “Trap Luv,” “Again,” “My Way,” “RGF Island,” of course “Trap Queen” and plenty more and the energy in the room just kept rising for each one. Fetty didn’t even encore, which I always appreciate from a new artist, even if their songs are all over the radio.
Check pictures from the first night, including shots of Fetty’s frequent collaborator Monty who joined him on several songs, and a video of Post Malone with 50 Cent, below…
