Lake Ruth (members of Holy Fuck, The New Lines), releasing debut 7" -- watch the video for "The Inconsolable Jean-Claude"

Lake Ruth

Lake Ruth is a new group formed by Hewson Chen (The New Lines), Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck, SAVAK, Enon) and singer Allison Brice (The Eighteenth Day Of May). Their sound doesn’t venture too far from what Chen does in New Lines: crystalline, baroque psych (think The Left Banke, Gainsbourg, The United States of America), though Schulz’s drumming adds serious oomph.

Lake Ruth’s debut 7″ is out next week (2/22) via The Great Pop Supplement, featuring two tracks: “The Inconsolable Jean-Claude,” a groovy number with a killer bassline about French musician Jean-Claude Vannier; and “The Prisoner’s Dilemma,” a more brittle work inspired by Wake by Anna Hope. The single was mixed by Greg Hughes of Still Corners and it really is a lovely twist of paisely pop. We’ve got the premiere of the surreal video for “The Inconsolable Jean-Claude” which was directed by Paul Cordes Wilm. You can watch that, and stream both sides of the single, below.

Look for Lake Ruth’s debut album later this year. Matt Schulz is about to be a busy guy. In addition to this, Holy Fuck just announce their first album in six years, and SAVAK are set to release their debut LP later this year.
