listen to Prince Rama's new album 'Xtreme Now'
Brooklyn duo Prince Rama claim their new album, Xtreme Now, was inspired by a near-death experience in Estonia which sparked a “recurring sense of time-schizophrenia” in the band’s Taraka Larsen. They also say it’s a concept album about extreme sports. I don’t know about all that, but Xtreme Now is easily the spacey duo’s most accessible, instantly likable — if all-all-over-the-place record to date. There’s dancepop (“Bahia,” “Fantasy,” the LEN-ish “Your Life in the End”), white witch new age excursions (“Slip Into Nevermore,” “Sochi”), and tribal new wave (“Believe in Something Fun,” “Fantasy”), but it’s all got Prince Rama’s glitter all over it, and every song has a big memorable hook. It’s a lot of fun and you can stream the whole thing below.
Prince Rama will be spinning record in the front room of Baby’s All Right tonight (2/27) and will be back playing the venue’s main stage on March 4 for their Xtreme Now record release show with PC Worship (tickets). Updated tour dates are listed below.
