Kanye West

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Kanye West – Yeezy Season 3 @ Madison Square Garden
We still don’t know too much about Kanye’s new album, but we do know three of its songs — “Real Friends,” “Wolves” and “Fade,” all of which are good — and that it supposedly features A$AP Rocky, Earl Sweatshirt, Chance the Rapper, Andre 3000, Tyler the Creator, and more. We’ll finally learn the title and hear the rest of it today, when he premieres at his Yeezy Season 3 fashion show at MSG. As of yesterday, the album is called The Life of Pablo and it does not feature the Kendrick Lamar collab “No More Parties in LA.” The show starts at 4 PM, and if you’re not attending, you can stream it live in several theaters worldwide.

Blonde Redhead, Half Waif @ Rough Trade
NYC’s consistently great indie rock/dream pop/noise rock/etc band Blonde Redhead have been working on new material, and tonight they take some time off from that to squeeze in this small sold-out show. After the show, they’ll DJ Baby’s All Right.

Whores, Fight Amp, Fashion Week, Haan @ Saint Vitus
Whores and Fight Amp both make noisy post-hardcore that’s indebted to the genre’s ’80s/’90s days, and still sounds relevant today. Also, at this show you can see the band Fashion Week during New York Fashion Week.

Freedom Williams, Talib Kweli @ Stage 48
It’s the 50th birthday party for Brooklyn dance/hip hop vet Freedom Williams, who famously did lead vocals for C+C Music Factory including on their massive hit “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).” Making this show weirdly interesting, Talib Kweli will host and perform.

Pop. 1280, Bambara, Suckling @ Silent Barn
A makeup for the Jonas-canceled night a few weeks ago, this is a record release party for both Pop 1280 (whose new record is out now) and kind of one for Bambara too (their new one is out in two weeks). Both bands are in the gothy postpunk sonic world and do it well.

Darlene Love @ B.B. King’s
Having sung with The Crystals (anonymously) and with many other Phil Spector wall-of-sound groups/productions, Darlene Love is one of the voices behind some of ’60s pop’s biggest hits.

Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s finally putting it to bed, but not before this six-week run.

“Serious Matters” @ Union Hall
Serious Matters is a “data-driven comedy show determined to solve the world’s issues one serious matter at a time.” This week the topic is “conflict resolution” and Todd Barry, Jo Firestone, Doug Smith, Brock Mahan and more will be on hand to solve it.

Antibalas, Angelique Kidjo, Karikatura, DJ Cochemea Gastelum of The Dap-Kings @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn afrobeat band Antibalas are in monthly residency at Brooklyn Bowl, and this month’s guests include Angelique Kidjo, Karikatura, and DJ Cochemea Gastelum of The Dap-Kings.

Stretch Armstrong @ Brooklyn Bowl
Questlove takes a night off from his weekly Bowl Train DJ party, and turns the boards over to Stretch Armstrong.

House Party With Funk Flex, Father, DJ Soul, DJ Wavy, Electric Punanny, Va$Htie @ Webster Hall
These weekly House Parties at Webster Hall often have pretty cool guests, and tonight it’s the eccentric rapper Father.
