Diarrhea Planet at Tomorrow Never Knows 2014 (more by Sara Pieper)
We mentioned back in December that two Nashville bands, Those Darlins and Diarrhea Planet, were planning to tour together this year. The dates have since been announced in full, and that tour kicks off this weekend, bringing the two bands to NYC on Sunday (2/16) at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Desert Sharks. Tickets for that show are still available, and we're also giving away a pair. Details on how to enter to win, along with the updated list of dates, below.
We just caught Diarrhea Planet in Chicago with Yuck and Pink Frost during Tomorrow Never Knows. You can check out more pics from that (like the one above) at BV Chicago. After the tour with Those Darlins, DP have a few festival appearances lined up, including Alabama's Hangout Fest and a return to NYC for Governors Ball in June.
Those Darlins, who also play Savannah Stopover and SXSW, recently released a new track from the sessions of their 2013 LP, Blur the Line, titled "Why Can't I." You can stream that song below, along with a recent video of the band playing "That Man" for Nashville Cream's "Live in the Morgue" series.
All dates are listed, along with streams and contest details, below...

As you may know, groovy French band La Femme are playing a BrooklynVegan-presented show at Glasslands on March 23. Future Punx (who just opened for Marked Men at Saint Vitus) open the show with one more band TBA, plus yours truly on DJ duty all night. Tickets for that show are still available but if you'd like to go for free, we're also giving a couple pairs away. Details below.
Right after that NYC show, La Femme will hook up with ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead as part of their "Source Tags & Codes" tour, including the 3/29 date at Bowery Ballroom. (They do not open the MHOW show.) Tickets are available for that one too, and all La Femme dates are listed below.

We're about six weeks out from Metronomy's fourth album, Love Letters, which hits the public on March 11 via Elektra/Because. You may remember that the new album was made at London's famed Toe Rag Studios on analogue tape with little or no help from computers/sequencers. You really get a sense for what this could mean for the new album with its title track, which Metronomy just posted for streaming. Driven by a pounding piano line, it's more like something The Kinks would've done in 1971 or perhaps Bowie or ELO. You can stream it -- and watch the video for "I'm Aquarius" -- below.
Metronomy will be in NYC early next month for the BrooklynVegan presented show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on February 5, their only current North American date. That show is sold out but we're giving a pair away. Details below.

Details on how to enter to win, along with the list of dates and a video, below...

Australia guitar pop combo Cloud Control have foolishly left the part of the world where it's summer right now to experience the polar vortex -- and to play some North American shows, including one in NYC at Baby's All Right on Saturday (1/11) to which tickets are still available. Additionally, if you'd like to go to the NYC show for free, we've got a pair of tickets to give away. Details below.
They're also headlining Brooklyn Bowl on Sunday (1/12) which is part of the "It's a School Night Series." Avers and Arms also play, and that's free with RSVP.
In anticipation of their tour, Cloud Control put together a mixtape for us and with songs by Talking Heads, Modern Lovers, Yo La Tengo and more, it would definitely make for good road soundtracking on the drive between gigs. You can stream it below.

Though it's private, we're giving away a pair of tickets, and details on how to enter to win are below.

The Roots will be performing again at the annual Okayplayer Holiday Jam, now in its 7th year, at Brooklyn Bowl on Monday, December 9 with host Hannibal Buress and a few "surprise special guests." No one's been announced for this year (hence "surprise") but Q-Tip, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), Talib Kweli, Patti Labelle, A$AP Rocky, Big Daddy Kane, John Legend, Estelle, TV on the Radio, and more have appeared in years past. The event is private but Okayplayer is giving away 25 pairs of tickets and you can enter to win by filling out this form. BrooklynVegan is also giving away a pair and details on how to enter are below.
Speaking of holidays and The Roots, Okayplayer -- a music site which was started by Questlove in 1999 -- is selling a Cosby-style Roots holiday sweatshirt, which is part of the site's gift guide. That's it above.

Swedish band Holograms' released their second album, Forever, over the summer and it's another gritty blast of angsty post-punk, definitely showing the non-shiny side of Stockholm. If you haven't heard it yet, you can stream it below. The band just made a video for "Luminous," a slice-of-life clip which makes its premiere in this post.
Holograms will be heading to North America this week for their tour with TV Ghost (who gave us their Top 10 LPs of 2013), stopping at 285 Kent on Friday (12/6) with locals Heaven's Gate on the bill as well. Tickets are still available but if you'd like to go for free, we're also giving a pair away. Contest details, and the video and album streams, below...
