Les Savy Fav

I'm excited to finally get to announce the kick-ass FREE show I've been working on for months with the fine people at Solar One. Thanks also to everyone who got in touch and volunteered their band and/or time for this cause.

I told you to save the date, and here's why:

Brooklyn Vegan & Solar One present Citysol....
A FREE SHOW on SATURDAY JULY 14 (1pm-10pm) in NYC w/
* LES SAVY FAV (!!)
* Land Of Talk (previously announced)
* O'Death (yeah)
* The Besnard Lakes (previously announced)
* These Are Powers (ex-Liars)
* The Budos Band (funky)
* Frankpollis (starring Jackson)
* plus a very special performance from OCDJ (Dance Party until the solar goes out!)

@ Solar One at Stuyvesant Cove Park - located along the East River between 18th and 23rd Streets. Solar One sits in the north end of the park, near the 23rd Street entrance and the Gulf Gas station.

We're also co-sponsoring the free Menomena/Beat the Devil show at the Seaport the day before, and hosting an opening night party the night before that with DRAGONS OF ZYNTH, DJ Mistakes (bicycle-powered turntablism), and Brightside.

Some interesting facts about the show on the 14th:

  • It is the same weekend as the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago - more reason to stay home.
  • It is outside (please don't rain, please don't rain).
  • It is one day before the free 'Ponderosa Stomp' show at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn
  • The bands will be performing on a solar + biodiesel powered stage.
  • It is one week before the free Siren Festival in Coney Island
  • There will be art installations to look at, and a "green product marketplace" for you to buy stuff at.
  • It will rock.

All festival details below.......

Múm Returns From Iceland With New Album After Three Years
Festival Dates to Follow This Summer and Fall

It has been more than three years since the release of múm's last album Summer Make Good, and a lot of water has passed under the bridge. And now, finally, a string of European festival appearances heralds their long-awaited new album, strangely titled Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy, Let Your Crooked Hands Be Holy, due out September 25. A colorful, twitching, playful work of art, full of life-affirming energy, the album will be preceded by the single "They Made Frogs Smoke 'Til They Exploded" on August 28. A chirpy song about animal cruelty, it's backed with "The Amateur Show", described by the band as a wonky insect-circus instrumental.

With the departure of Kristín Valty´sdóttir at the beginning of the creative process, the core of múm is again down to the original duo of founding members Gunnar and Örvar, but the band itself is now larger than ever, counting in all seven people. The album was recorded at a variety of locations, including the music school in the small fishing town of Ísafjörur in the west fjords of Iceland, where the band made use of the school's various instruments. The songs on this multifarious album were conceived over a long period in many a different fashion, with one song even dating back to the period of Yesterday was dramatic, today is OK.

The strange, almost eerie artwork for Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy..., and "They Made Frogs Smoke..." is by Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir, who also animated the video for the single.

Would you? I guess someone would, or they wouldn't be playing there. Presale for that show, and new ones in LA, Minneapolis, Vancouver and Toronto, HERE.

UPDATE: As someone pointed out in the comments, Spoon's Roseland show is during CMJ. Thanks.
