Maria Taylor's gear stolen in San Francisco

Maria Taylor @ Belmont Arts and Music Festival - July 6, 2008 (musicitylights)
Maria Taylor

Yesterday in San Francisco Maria Taylor's van was broken into. Maria and the band are pretty devastated as the culprits got away with 6 guitars, 2 suitcases, pedals, and plenty of merch. We're hoping some of these items may turn up online or in local San Francisco pawn shops. As you can imagine, this gear has lots of sentimental value as well. If anyone has any information, please have them send a message to info AT saddle-creek DOT com.

Maria has two more shows left with Johnathan Rice and Nik Frietas. They'll be playing with borrowed gear, but the shows will go on!

Fri-Jul-11, Los Angeles, CA, Echoplex
Sat-Jul-12, Sonoma, CA, Gundlach Bundschu Winery

Thanks so much for your support.

Land of Talk's gear was stolen in NJ

Land of Talk @ Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ - Oct 26, 2007 (CRED)
Land of Talk @ Maxwells

we were robbed at the Howard Johnson in Clifton N.J.
they stole my Cherry Red "faded" SG special with crescent moon inlays (pretty rare) and my Gibson Les Paul Studio "wine red" battered and beaten.
they also stole Chris' Bird's Eye Maple Samick SAB 650 with only one bridge pick-up and one volume knob. the Neck pick-up and and all other knobs are missing. His Peavey Milestone Bass (not worth ANY MONEY, but it fuckin worked just fine) was also stolen. it was midnight blue but we stripped most of the paint and the strap lock was a water bottle cap. [Elizabeth Powell of Land of Talk]
Someone told me Land of Talk's van was broken into before or after their show at Maxwell's the other day. The above quote is Lizzie's unfortunate e-mail confirmation. See Land of Talk on tour, and keep an eye out for their equipment.

PJ Harvey's White Chalk & other streaming albums

PJ Harvey in London

My current obsession is PJ Harvey's new album White Chalk. You can stream it - along with other new new albums by Bruce Springsteen, Richard Hawley, The Most Serene Republic, and Sharon Jones - over at AOL.

The above picture was taken on September 29th @ The Royal Festival Hall in London. PJ plays NYC and LA next week.

Deerhunter members robbed at gunpoint after show

Deerhunter (Bradford) @ Pitchfork Fest 2007 (CRED)
Deerhunter @ Pitchfork FEstival

We got a friendly homecoming suprise last night in Atlanta when Lockett and I got robbed at gunpoint after our show at Lenny's last night. We literally had just walked off the stage and I was pretty wasted. Lockett was trying to take care of me and get me home. He grabbed my guitar and my stuff and we walked to his car which was parked about a block away from Lenny's because it was so crowded. I heard a commotion behind us but like I said I was pretty out of it. I just opened the door to the car and collapsed in the passenger seat. Then I heard all this yelling and I hear this loud metallic banging on the window and look up and there is a gun in my face and a guy yelling "get the fuck out the car man" I stumbled out and see the other guy has Lockett with his arms spread on the roof of his car and is patting him down. Lockett was begging them to leave me alone. The guy put his gun up to my temple and said "give me EVERYTHING motherfucker I aint fucking with you" I just mumbled something and he put his hands in my pants and took everything I had. My cellphone, my wallet (empty except for credit / bank cards which kristin immidietly cancelled, and about 450 dollars in cash I had for my rent.) They also got all of Lockett's money. They even took my fucking Camel Ultralights and Orange Bic. All I can say is that I'm glad we are not dead. Or more specifically, I am REALLY glad they didn't hurt Lockett. He was just trying to help me get home and would not have even been there at that time otherwise.

Deerhunter's next NYC show is at South Street Seaport. All tour dates below...

Eastern Conference Champions' gear stolen in LA

Eastern Conference ChampionsDon't leave your gear alone in a van overnight. From MySpace:

Fuck. We just played the last night of our February residency on Monday to a packed house at the Silverlake Lounge, and then all of our gear gets stolen. The van was parked overnight on Sycamore, just east of LaBrea, between 4th and 6th streets. The next morning, our buddy, the green sherrod aka '94 Ford Econoline, was discovered with the passenger side window smashed and all the equipment gone. Everything. Guitars, Drums, Amps, Computers. Everything. The fuckers wiped us out. These pieces of shit even took the time to unscrew the useless TV and VCR out of the overhead console. And all of this happened on a quiet little neighborhood street.

The list of gear and serial numbers will be posted soon, please keep a look out on sites like craigslist or ebay for us. We really appreciate everyone's help. On a brighter note, we're getting ready to play SXSW and head out on the road for a solid two months with some great bands like Mew, The Films and The View. We hope to see you soon, have a few drinks together and curse the bastards that took our stuff. Thanks.

Tapes 'n Tapes gear, passport, pictures & stuff - robbed from their van in Australia

Tapes n tapes"on friday, only a few hours before we were scheduled to fly home from perth, we got robbed. our van was parked at city beach (right outside of perth, australia), while we were taking a brief frolic in the indian ocean. our tour manager left the van unattended for about 10 minutes, and when we came back, someone had pried open a window and stole a lot of our personal belongings. Luckily very little of our gear was stolen (only 2 big muff distortion pedals, one boss loop station, one DW9000 kick drum pedal, and a tambourine). But our personal belongings did not fair so well. One of our passports was stolen, two mac laptops were stolen, one digital camera, all of josh's clothes, one blackberry, two cell phones, and all sorts of various inconvenient personal effects (glasses, keys, wallets, shoes, etc.). So far nothing has been recovered by the police. One of us is still stuck in Australia, sorting out passport details, but hopefully that should be resolved in the next 48hrs. The biggest thing that we lost from all of this was years worth of photos and other sentimental stuff stored on the two computers that were stolen. we'll probably never see any of these things again, but in the off chance that any of you might come across any of it, we've added some descriptive information below. thanks to everyone who's already helped us out with all of this." [Tapes 'n Tapes]

Assuming they all get out of Australia, TNT's next, and only scheduled, show is December 29, 2006 at First Avenue in Minneapolis.

GLENN DANZIG & HENRY ROLLINS | 1984 (CRED)
Glenn Danzig & Henry Rollins

"Glenn Danzig and his namesake band, Danzig, had an equipment truck stolen on Nov. 30 in L.A. Fans that showed up to the final 'Blackest of the Black' tourdate in Santa Cruz were treated to a show comprising only of the opening bands, and a seven dollar refund at the door. Danzig was quoted as saying, 'I should be able to kill somebody if they fuck with me'." [PunkNews]

Grizzly Bear's gear stolen in Brussels, tour cancelled

GRIZZLY BEAR (via)
Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear posted this sad note on their MySpace on Sunday:

I have the worst news.

Firstly, Daniel's father is very very ill and we had been debating for some time cutting the tour short so he could be with his family.

But last night, the final straw happened, our Van was robbed and much of our gear and personal belongings were stolen while in Brussels.

It's with a very very very sad face that I have to announce we are cancelling our last 12 shows.

We were really looking forward to them all so much. We will surely be back sometime in 2007, once we can replace all the stolen instruments and Daniel has had time to be with his father.

So sorry

much love
grizzly bear

La Rocca was just robbed too. Sux for all.
