The Polyphonic Spree at Webster Hall in May (more by Toby Tenenbaum)

The Polyphonic Spree released their new Christmas album, Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Volume One on October 23. Of the ten standards it features, the collective just made a video for "Winter Wonderland," and you can watch that for the first time at the bottom of this post.
The video's director Josh David Jordan writes:
"When I first heard Winter Wonderland I was really moved by the way it had a beautiful haunting beginning. I remember thinking, " What happens when Santa has had too much of the elves, the up keep of the North Pole's day to day, and turns in the cookies and milk for a glass of scotch." Lucky for me my friend Jack enjoys scotch, has Santa's snowy locks and can be easily found on the patio of the City Tavern in downtown Dallas. Jack was also the original voice of Popeye's Chicken commercials, so when I asked him to recite 'Twas the night before Christmas' intro, he didn't hesitate. Spontaneity took over for the rest of the video. I dressed my youngest as the elves, my beautiful and talented wife Jessica Jordan (who is a member of the Spree) assumed the part of the queen elf and partner in crime ( we broke into an old abandoned church for her scenes), and Tim allowed me to get up close and personal for the mouth shots. In the end, Santa just may have had one too many scotch's and will be back to the milk and cookies just in time for Christmas this year."As mentioned, the band are celebrating the album with their Holiday Extravaganza! Tour which brings them to NYC on December 15 at Webster Hall. Tickets for that show are still available.

Ben Gibbard at Hi-Fi Bar in October (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben GIbbard, who played a single intimate show in NYC during CMJ, kicked off his tour with Advance Base in Minneapolis last week and they're set to hit NYC TONIGHT (11/5) at Town Hall. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.
Ben also just recently released a video for "Teardrop Windows" off of his debut album, Former Lives (out now via Barsuk), which was directed by Tom Scharpling, who also recently directed videos for Aimee Mann, Nude Beach, and others. The video stars comedian Kurt Braunohler, who plays a record label executive that tries to turn Ben into a "bad boy." Check out that video and an updated list of dates below.

Nude Beach at 285 Kent (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)

Nude Beach are back with a new Tom Scharpling-directed video for "Some Kinda Love," one of the standout tracks from their recent Other Music-reissued II. Clearly shot at Union Pool, the video works as both an introduction to the band and a window into the sidetracked mind of the director. As you'd expect from Scharpling, it's hilarious. Check it out below.
Don't forget, Nude Beach will play the NYC area twice in the coming weeks as part of a string of dates with Roky Erickson. Look for them at The Bell House on 11/7 (tickets) and Maxwell's on 11/8 (tickets).
All tour dates are listed below along with that video.

The Intelligence just debuted the video for their track "Hippy Provider" from this year's terrific Everybody's Got it Easy But Me (stream it at Spotify). The clip features a sweet '80s-style Fisher all-in-one stereo system (that goes well with the "Freedom Rock" referencing lyric) and the sunny skies of Los Angeles where main brain Lars Finberg resides these days when not on the road. You can watch it below.
As noted before, The Intelligence are here for CMJ week (though no official CMJ shows) in the midst of their tour with King Tuff, including headlining our backroom stage at Friday's BV day party at Public Assembly (10/19, 5:15 PM). The show is free, with complimentary beverages by PBR, Sailor Jerry spiced rum and Mercy.
You can see them sooner than that, though, as The Intelligence play this afternoon (10/18, 4 PM) at Public Assembly for the free MySocialist day party with Wild Yaks, Mood Rings and Royal Baths. They'll then play again tonight for a not-CMJ show at Death by Audio with Canada's Absolutely Free, Parquet Courts, and Viva L'American Deathray Music (that's a great show), and then Friday afternoon (10/19, 2:40 PM) at Pianos before our day party. Do try to catch them at one (or more) of their NYC appearances, The Intelligence are a blast live.

Armed with backup singers, Passion Pit played Saturday Night Live last night (10/13), performing "Take a Walk" and "Carried Away" both from the band's Gossamer LP. SNL has notoriously wonky sound, but PP did a pretty good job. Christina Applegate hosted, her first time doing so since Married with Children was still on the air.
Passion Pit are currently on tour and while they won't be hitting NYC this time around, their tourmates Hollerado will play Mercury Lounge on November 7.
Next week (10/20), set your DVRs (or, y'know, don't) as Bruno Mars will not only perform but also host SNL. Video of both Passion Pit performances are below, along with the "Tech Talk" sketch, probably the funniest bit of last night's show.

still from "Yet Again" video

Grizzly Bear, who just played Manhattan's tony Radio City Music Hall on Monday (9/24), have just released the video for "Yet Again" from their much-praised album, Shields. The clip was directed by Emily Kai Bock who put Grimes in a locker for "Oblivion" and for the Brooklyn band has fashioned a narrative about a figure skater who falls through the ice and into another, dreamlike world. You can watch it below.
While the video, produced in partnership with The Creators Project, doesn't actually feature the band, they will be enterering their own dreamlike world soon. Well, Europe at least, when Grizzly Bear head across the Atlantic to tour with Villagers after a short West Coast stint with Lower Dens.
Video is below.

Instrumental hip hop producer Daedelus will be releasing a new 5-track EP titled Looking Ocean in early October as the followup to 2011's Bespoke album and the remix EP, Overwhelmed, that followed. Our first taste of that EP is the track "Platforming," which Daedelus teamed up with Scion AV to make a video for. That video will appear on ScionAV.com at some point in the next week but you can watch it now, by heading below.
