Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin tribute concert happening at Madison Square Garden

While everyone is praying for Aretha Franklin, plans have also been revealed for a tribute concert to the Queen of Soul taking place at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on November 14. The concert is being presented by Sony Music’s Clive Davis, Showbiz411 reports. Here’s more:

Even before Aretha’s health became a concern this spring, she and Davis discussed the idea at length. Indeed, they each mentioned it to me last month when I went to to Detroit to see Aretha. The Queen of Soul was beyond delighted. She personally approved Jennifer Hudson, who is slated to play Aretha in a biopic for Sony/Tri-Star, as one of the lead performers.

Aretha herself had hoped to be in the audience if not actually perform. If she can’t get there, the show will be live-cast to her in Detroit via any number of methods.

Stay tuned for more details. Last year, City Winery founder Michael Dorf put on an Aretha Franklin tribute concert at Carnegie Hall.

It was first more recent reports say she is in home hospice care. A vigil to pray for Aretha is happening at the White House today and there’s one happening in Detroit on Wednesday.

Many others have been paying tribute to Aretha, including Beyonce who dedicated last night’s Detroit concert with Jay-Z to her.
