Shirley Manson of Garbage @ Waterloo Records on 4/21

Happy Record Store Day! Though they postponed their Austin and Houston shows, Garbage (minus Duke Erickson - who flew home for a medical emergency) still made their Austin in-store appearance for Record Store Day at Waterloo Records on Saturday (4/21). The band didn't perform, but 300+ people lined up and got special wristbands for the signing, while regular customers, many there to pick up some of the exclusive RSD releases, shopped and took pictures.

Erika of Heartless Bastards @ La Zona Rosa - 4/20/2012

After visiting the new Willie Nelson statue outside the Moody Theater, I walked the few blocks over to La Zona Rosa to see Austin's Heartless Bastards (who played during SXSW and will be at Waterloo Records on 4/25) rock out with David Vandervelde.
More pictures from the La Zona Rosa Show (and a picture of an 8-foot-Willie), along with a mostly-readable shot of the headliner's setlist, below...

Willie Nelson has released a new version of his country song, "Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die," featuring rapper and fellow marijuana enthusiast Snoop Dogg just in time for - what else - April 20.Head to Willie's site to hear the 4/20 collaboration with Snoop. Head over to the Moody Theater to see the new statue and to catch Willie help honor Johnny Cash at a show tonight. Kris Kristofferson, Shelby Lynne, Ronnie Dunn, Sam Beam, Pat Monahan, Buddy Miller, Amy Lee, Lucinda Williams, Jamey Johnson, Shooter Jennings, Rhett Miller, Andy Grammer, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Brandi Carlile, Matthew McConaughey, Pat Monahan Shelby Lynne & Special Surprise Guests To Be Named are also on the bill, and tickets are still on sale. Also on Friday, Nelson is expected to attend the unveiling of an 8-foot bronze statue of himself in Austin, Texas. The date and "4/20" is a symbol of cannabis subculture and as a day of protest for the legalization of pot use.
The Grammy-winning country star's Austin monument was commissioned by Capital Area Statues Inc., a group of writers, film producers and musicians. One of its founders told the Associated Press that April 20 was picked as the date for the unveiling because Nelson was scheduled to perform in the city that night, not because of the counterculture significance. The event also takes place 10 days before his 79th birthday. [OTRC]
Oh and speaking of Snoop, Coachella 2012 Week 2 is now underway! Snoop plays again Sunday with Dr. Dre.
UPDATE: Around 4pm, Willie arrives on the scene (watch it live):

UPDATE 2: The statue has been unveiled and Willie performed two songs including the new "Roll Me Up" tune live for the crowd.

The Coathangers at #HotelVegan during SXSW 2012 (more by Tim Griffin)

As discussed on BV, The Coathangers have a new split 7" with Davila 666 and will hit the road for some East Coast dates in late May, but first the quartet will reenact SXSW and play a pair of Austin shows on the same day as part of the Fusebox Festival.
The first show happens earlier in the evening on 4/25 at Long Center for Performing Arts as part of an event entitled Forklift Danceworks: Invasion of the New Grrl Order:
Acclaimed Austin-based choreographer Allison Orr teams up with Emily Marks of Scottish Rite Theatre and over one hundred local girls in a raucous homage to the Riot Grrl movement of the early 1990s. Accompanied by the celebrated female punk rock band The Coathangers (Atlanta), the event serves as the kickoff to this year's festival. The FREE event is still looking for girls ages 6 - 18 to participate. For more information head to their site. Later that night The Coathangers will head to Fusebox Festival Hub (1100 E. 5th Street) for a show that will set you back a measly $5 at the door.
Fusebox Festival runs from April 25th to May 6th, and is "an annual contemporary art and performance festival" that features everything from film to dance to music. Among the included artists are bounce musician Vockah Redu, who will bounce his way into Fusebox Festival Hub on 4/28. $5 gets you in at the door.
All Coathangers dates, a preview of the Fusebox Festival and a streamable version of that split with Davila 666, below....

Corrosion of Conformity at Tone Deaf SXSW 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)

Corrosion of Conformity likes Austin. Just a few months after wrecking the city with SXSW shows, the band will return to the area with Black Cobra (who just got back from Roadburn 2012), Torche (whose new LP Harmonicraftis streaming at Spin) and Gaza. Ticketing info for the May 25th show at Beauty Ballroom is forthcoming.
UPDATE:We're told that there was some confusion with the tour dates, and that Beauty Ballroom is actually Black Cobra and Gaza ONLY, NOT COC or Torche.
Corrosion of Conformity recently dropped their new and self-titled LP for Candlelight, as well as a new video for "Psychic Vampire" and "The Moneychangers". Check out those videos below along with all tour dates.
