Austin festival Fun Fun Fun Fest begins this week, and of course that means tons of FFF Nites shows too. One of those is being presented by our metal blog Invisible Oranges on Saturday (11/8) at Elysium with doom greats Pallbearer, local rippers Eagle Claw, Pallbearer's blackened tourmates Vattnet Viskar and JR Robinson's metal collective Wrekmeister Harmonies. Like all FFF Nites shows, it's free with a FFF wristband.

Sargeist at Martyrdoom Fest in NYC (more by Caroline Harrison)
Theatrically old-school Finnish black metal band Sargeist have been making their presence felt in the U.S. lately. They've been touring with fellow evil Fins Behexen for much of the summer, and they just played a set in Brooklyn at Martyrdoom Fest that garnered some rave reviews from the folks at Invisible Oranges. You'll have a chance to catch them in Austin tonight (7/2) at Red 7, where they'll be joined by Ritual Decay and Sturmgewehr (Behexen and Morbosidad played there last night). Tickets are no longer available online but they'll be at the door.

We knew about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre party. THE ANNOUNCEMENT READS:
Heavy metal legend Philip Anselmo and best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell's groundbreaking horror-meets-metal event, the Housecore Horror Film Festival, is creeping ever closer. On Friday the 13th, they let slip via the official Housecore Horror Film Festival Facebook page that bloody death/grinders CATTLE DECAPITATION had signed on for the festival's second incarnation, but now, the diabolical minds behind the proceedings have finally seen fit to bestow a nasty little surprise upon the unsuspecting public. The rest of the announcement can be read below...
This year promises to drench eardrums in blood and distortion with a hugely diverse array of metallic talent from Norwegian black metal legends, Canadian noiseniks, Australian masters of death, American thrash maniacs, and tons more. Without further ado, clap your eyes on the first round of band announcements for this year's Housecore Horror Film Festival!

Municipal Waste at GWAR-B-Q 2013 (more by Josh Sisk)
RIchmond crossover thrashers Municipal Waste will headline the next Red Bull Sound Select show in Austin on Friday (6/6) at Mohawk, curated by Transmission. Like all RBSS shows, the openers are (relatively) local, including Dallas' Power Trip (who likely owe a thing or two to Municipal Waste and other crossover vets) and Houston noise rapper B L A C K I E. And because it's RBSS, admission is $3 with RSVP or $10 without. Even if you RSVP, entry is first come, first served.
This is at least the second metal RBSS show happening this year, following the Pig Destroyer show we presented in NYC this past January.
