Two Door Cinema Club @ Stubb's - 4/9/13

Irish indie pop band Two Door Cinema Club are on an international tour that has them over in California for Coachella 2013, which they played this past weekend and will again this coming weekend. Before making their way over to that festival though, they stopped in Texas for some shows including Austin dates on April 9 and 10 at Stubb's. Pictures from the 4/9 show (including one of the setlist) are in this post.
More below...

Phoenix stopped at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Thursday night to warm up for their headlining performance at Coachella tonight (you can stream it live). Some pictures from that smaller California show are in this post.
After Coachella this weekend, Phoenix will play... the second week of Coachella, and then eventually make their way to Texas before the end of April for a co-headlining show at Edgefest in Dallas. Who else is playing Edgefest? Well... Bush, Paramore, Deftones, and a whole bunch of other bands you probably won't want to pay to be trapped for a whole day with.
The good news is that Phoenix will visit Austin on May 6th. The somewhat bad news is it is only to tape an episode of Austin City Limts (which means tickets aren't exactly easy to come by). Hopefully Phoenix, who also recently played an intimate show in Brooklyn and will be at Lollapalooza, announce another Austin date soon. Meanwhile, check out more of those pictures from Pomona below...

Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear @ Stubb's - 4/8/2012

Grizzly Bear are on tour and in Texas this week and played a sold-out Stubb's with Owen Pallett on Monday night (4/8). Owen, who was shoe-less and sporting a Grizzly Bear shirt, got things going with his violin and sounded great backed by Matt Smith on guitar and Rob Gordon on drums.
Grizzly Bear took the stage to cheers from the audience, and rolled through 19 songs (including a three song encore) ending with a great acoustic version of "All We Ask" with the band gathered around a single mic. Check out the full setlist below.
GB played Houston last night and are back in Austin tonight (4/10) to tape an episode of Austin City Limits. They then hit El Paso on April 11 before moving on to California for shows including Coachella, and then the world (London, Barcelona, Paris, Milan, München) before heading back to New York where they play Governors Ball.
Check out more pictures from Stubb's, along with the setlist and upcoming tour dates (and maybe I'll see you at the taping tonight), below...

Marmalakes @ TKAAFest - 4/6/2013

On Saturday, Mohawk was host to the all-day The Kids Are Alright Fest, featuring boatloads of activity to benefit families living with autism. It also included music featuring Residual Kid, Holiday, Once Per Axis, Les Rav, Befriend the Bears, Cartright, The Sour Notes, Marmalakes, and Soup.
Sadly I was only able to make it for Cartright and Marmalakes on the outside stage, and The Sour Notes on the inside stage . Pics of the inside state in another post. More pics from Cartright and Marmalakes below...

Jared Paul Boulanger of The Sour Notes @ Mohawk - 4/6/2013

The Sour Notes like to keep busy, and 2013 has already seen them play SXSW and many other shows. They're also going to play NXNE and will release a new album (Do What May) before Summer is through. No rest for the weary...
They played the inside stage at Mohawk for The Kids Are Alright Fest on 4/6, and I was able to catch them before Marmalakes (pics HERE) (and before I went to Beerland for Feral Future and White Lung). Some pictures from their set are in this post.
You can see next them play the inside stage at Stubb's for FREE tonight (4/8) immediately following the Grizzly Bear show.
More pictures from their TKAAFest set and some videos below...

Back in 2010 we hosted a BrooklynVegan day party at Spider House, which as you may know is a bit of a trek from most of the SXSW action. For some reason Tim and I decided to walk to 6th Street after our show which ended around 8pm. We were happy we did though because as we exhaustedly worked our way down Guadalupe we came across a parking lot show across from Antone's Record Shop andBrooklyn duo Shellshag were just starting what was a very memorable set of rock n roll.
Not only have I never forgotten it, I never forgot we have some pictures that we never posted. So in honor of the fact that BrooklynVegan is today streaming the new album Shellshag Forever along with an interview with the band, here are those long lost pics. They continue below...
