Arctic Monkeys / Passion Pit @ FPSF - 6/1/2013
The official closing band on Saturday at FPSF was the Postal Service, but for those of us who know how much even mellow indie-rock like the fare played by Ben Gibbard et al. owes to Detroit madman Iggy Pop, he and his Stooges were the climax of the day's events.Houston's Free Press Summer Festival kicked off yesterday (6/1) with sets from The Postal Service, Arctic Monkeys, Passion Pit, Iggy & The Stooges, Alabama Shakes, A Place to Bury Strangers and more. Pictures of those (and other) bands are in this post.
A crowd gathered around the Neptune Stage to pay tribute to the grandfather of punk and as soon as he stepped onto the stage, we went through a time machine. Though he looked his generation, his voice told a different story, screeching out just as powerfully and dangerously as it had 40 years earlier. [Houston Press]
Arctic Monkeys have been playing a new song, "Do I Wanna Know?," at their recent shows, and if you haven't checked that out yet, you can watch a video of them debuting it in California last month, along with more FPSF pictures, below...

Action Bronson @ Beauty Ballroom - 9/21/2012
On Friday 9/21 Action Bronson came to Austin and played Beauty Ballroom. As we reported over on BrooklynVegan, he's been keeping himself busy with a new song and touring. Check out more pictures from the show below.
Okkervil River / Diamond Rugs
BrooklynVegan's Hotel Vegan, located at Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead Lounge, ended on Saturday, 3/17/2012, on three stages in partnership with Partisan Records and KF Records, and the new Young One Records who helped us put together the hip hop stage which stage headliner Action Bronson cancelled from last minute from (for medical reasons).
The day, and all four days, ended with special last minute addition Okkervil River who played after Deer Tick/Black Lips/Dead Confederate/Los Lobos super group Diamond Rugs who played after Heartless Bastards (who we already posted one set of pictures of). Other previously posted photo sets from this day include Father John Misty, Field Report, Pond and Emily Wells. Here are the rest of the pics.
More, slightly belated, pictures from all of Saturday, below...

Mobb Deep @ Lustre Pearl - SXSW 2012
While the BrooklynVegan showcase was happening at Bar 96 on the Wednesday of SXSW Music, this was happening right next door at Lustre Pearl...
Action Bronson said in an interview that he would be playing Rachael Ray's SXSW party at Stubb's this year. That lineup is now out, and Action isn't on it, which is probably a better look for him anyway considering who is (Spank Rock doesn't seem to mind though, and I guess Jimmy Cliff is also on the billl...). I wonder how much Billy Gibbons is getting to play with her husband's band The Cringe, or maybe they're just all BFFs...
UPDATE: The RSVP link with the lineup seems to have been removed. Not sure if there's a new link.
In related news, Jimmy Cliff is also playing two other SXSW parties, and a show in Brooklyn and Coachella.

Their tour hits Beauty Ballroom on March 10. Tickets are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
Slaughterhouse's Shady Records labelmate and collaborator Yelawolf will be at the same venue a bit sooner when he plays Beauty Ballroom on February 17. Tickets are on sale now.
Action Bronson, who would rather be a chef than a rapper will be returning to Austin for SXSW this year. Exact details haven't been announced but this Austin360 article mentions a GQ guide to NYC dining that Bronson participated it where he mentioned he'd be playing Rachael Ray's party at SXSW this year. No need to wait that long to catch him though because, as previously mentioned, he'll be in Austin THIS FRIDAY.
Another SXSW option is Main Attrakionz, whose tour was just announced in full and includes SXSW and 35 Denton. They also just dropped a new track, "Focalin" (prod. by Tyler Bisson), which you can grab above and stream below.
