Yesterday, we announced that the 2014 BrooklynVegan official nighttime SXSW showcase will take place on Wednesday, March 12 at Red 7 Patio (611 E. 7th St. in Austin, TX). The punk-oriented lineup features Against Me!, Touche Amore, The Front Bottoms, Cheap Girls, Frameworks, Placeholder and a 7:30 special guest opening set by occasional actor and cult singer Harvey Sid Fisher. Doors are at 7 PM and headliners Against Me! go on at 1 AM. SXSW badges are welcome, and we'll also have some general admission tickets for sale at the door (come early!).

The Red 7 show is one of a few BrooklynVegan events at SXSW this year. Our metal blog Invisible Oranges will be announcing a metal showcase soon. We also have three day parties at Red 7 (3/13-15, lineups coming soon), and a BrooklynVegan/BV Austin-curated portion of the Flatstock stage on 3/15 with Austin artists Mother Falcon, S U R V I V E, and Bronze Whale.

Hope to see you there!

Check out videos of everyone on the showcase below...

The best part about Austin's annual good time known as Fun Fun Fun Fest is diversity. While punk and metal are driving the tattoo-sleeved set nuts on the Black Stage (pics HERE and HERE), there is an entirely different festival going on at some of the other stages - legendary MCs to movie star cameros, punk legends to some of the best indie bands on the come-up. .

In this post are another set of pics from day one, this time from photographer Glen Brown, including shots of Black Lips with Val Kilmer and Rooney Mara (part of a Terrence Malick movie shoot, more HERE), Against Me!, and Run DMC, plus X, Not In The Face, Dum Dum Girls, Cursive, Diamond Rings, Sharon Van Etten, more Napalm Death, more Converge, Astronautilus, Bob Mould, and Tomahawk.

FunFunFun Fest 2012 Bingo!

While we've had some teasers in the last few weeks - Wednesday night was the night for BINGO - and the full Fun Fun Fun Fest reveal.

On 7/11 (Happy Slurpee Day!) Fun Fun Fun held their bingo-to-reveal-the-artists event, and while we already knew about Run DMC reuniting and some others, there were quite a few surprises in the massive list of musical acts and comedians announced (Public Image Ltd., Youth of Today, De La Soul, X, Bob Mould, Saul Williams, and Hannibal Burress to name a few).

The headliners (in addition to the aforementioned Run DMC reunion) are an electic-but-looked-forward-to group: Santigold, Refused, and for Comedy David Cross.

Three-day and PIP passes go on sale on Thursday at 10AM CST and will no doubt move fast. Get them here once the clock passes 9:59...

See the full line-up below.

Chuck Ragan
Hot Water Music

Hot Water Music, who have been reunited since 2008, are currently working on their first album since the reunion and since 2004's The New What Next, and that album should be out this May via Rise Records. They only have a few shows scheduled in 2012, including SXSW, when they'll play the free (donations encouraged) Shirts for a Cure 10th anniversary showcase at Red 7 on March 16 from 12-6 PM with a completely stacked 2-stage lineup including the also recently reunited Braid and the also recently reunited DYS, in addition to Darkest Hour, Comeback Kid, Coliseum, Anti-Flag, Tim Barry, and many more TBA.

Hot Water Music frontman Chuck Ragan is kicking off The Revival Tour 2012 at SXSW too, which includes Dan Andriano (of Alkaline Trio), Tommy Gabel (of Against Me!), Nathaniel Rateliff and Lucero-associate Cory Branan collaborating on stage in a traditional folk music fashion. The exact lineup and date for SXSW has not been announced yet (lineups differ slightly by show).

Nathaniel Rateliff will also play SXSW as part of the Communion-presented "Austin to Boston Tour" with Ben Howard, The Staves, and Bear's Den. All Revival Tour and Austin to Boston Tour dates at BrooklynVegan.

All Hot Water Music dates at BrooklynVegan.
