Field Report at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
One business leader is prioritizing his mental health over a surging career. On a lighter note for Pandora, they'll be in Austin this week for SXSW and have a number of day and night shows from Tuesday (3/12) through Friday (3/15) at Antone's. Artists playing their shows include Talib Kweli, Angel Haze, Eagles of Death Metal, Richard Thompson Electric Trio, The Gaslamp Killer, Dead Prez, Guards, Surfer Blood, Field Report, Akron/Family, Anamanaguchi, Dawes, and more. You can browse their entire lineup and schedule at Pandora.com/SXSW.
Joseph Kennedy, CEO of Pandora, an Internet radio site, announced Thursday that he's stepping down, even as the company posted a 54 percent jump in revenue. It may seem odd for a successful executive to jump ship at the height of his company's success, but in explaining his decision, Kennedy said he had something more important to attend to.
"As I approach the start of my tenth year, my head is telling me it is time to get to a recharging station sooner rather than later," Kennedy said in an earnings call with analysts, according to USA Today.
It may come as no surprise that Kennedy needs a break. He helped Pandora navigate a series of obstacles since becoming a public company in 2011, including lagging advertisement revenue and issues with royalty costs, according to the Wall Street Journal. What's more surprising is that he actually decided to take that break. [Huffington Post]
Okkervil River / Diamond Rugs
BrooklynVegan's Hotel Vegan, located at Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead Lounge, ended on Saturday, 3/17/2012, on three stages in partnership with Partisan Records and KF Records, and the new Young One Records who helped us put together the hip hop stage which stage headliner Action Bronson cancelled from last minute from (for medical reasons).
The day, and all four days, ended with special last minute addition Okkervil River who played after Deer Tick/Black Lips/Dead Confederate/Los Lobos super group Diamond Rugs who played after Heartless Bastards (who we already posted one set of pictures of). Other previously posted photo sets from this day include Father John Misty, Field Report, Pond and Emily Wells. Here are the rest of the pics.
More, slightly belated, pictures from all of Saturday, below...

Field Report @ Hotel Vegas during SXSW 2012

Megafaun @ Mohawk on 4/10/2012
As just mentioned on BrooklynVegan (where you can also download two tracks), Field Report is the project of Chris Portfield, the remaining ex-member of DeYarmond Edison who didn't go on to form Bon Iver or Megafaun. Field Report made their live debut at SXSW in Austin, where they played Hotel Vegan (pics of that HERE) and followed it with a tour with Megafaun. That tour brought the band back to Austin on 4/10 for a show at Mohawk with Dana Falconberry. More pictures from that show, below...
"Who knew @Megafaun would be the highlight of Super Bowl? Didn't see that coming. Big smiles." - Kathleen Edwards
Megafaun @ Bowery Ballroom in 2011 (more by Ryan Barkan)
Though they're playing shows around Europe now, Megafaun will be back in the states in March, with the Mohawk show toward the end of their 2012 North American tour which also includes a quite large NYC show at Highline Ballroom and FESTIVAL EN EL BARRIO in Tucson with CALEXICO, GRUPO FANTASMA, SERGIO MENDOZA Y LA ORKESTRA, AND MORE.
And even while they're overseas, the band is gaining stardom in living rooms across the U.S. Though most probably didn't recognize it (like Ryan Matteson did), their song, "Hope You Know", was used in a Toyota commercial which aired during the Super Bowl last night.
Too bad their Austin show isn't later in April because they could maybe have met up with their friend and former bandmate, Justin Vernon, as Bon Iver is apparently set to do a taping for Austin City Limits on April 25th.
