Hospitality, Air Waves, Modrag @ Red 7 - 2/17/2014
Hospitality not only survived the "sophomore slump," they bettered their debut with the just-released Trouble which finds them expanding beyond their indiepop roots. The band's tour with fellow Brooklynites Air Waves hit Austin on Monday night (2/17) for a show at Red 7 with locals Modrag opening the night. Pics from the whole show are in this post.
If you missed the show you can watch Hospitality play a few songs from Trouble in the most recent edition of our BV Studio Sessions. More pics from Red 7 below...

Philly's Hop Along released their new album, Get Disowned, earlier this year and have been playing shows in support of it since. Now they've announced another extensive tour they'll be on for most of September and into November which hits Austin on October 20 at Red 7, supporting a solid bill of Hospitality and TEEN, as part of a tour those two bands will be on together. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Hop Along's Get Disowned came out this past May and has been criminally overlooked in indie rock circles since its release, considering how undeniably striking these songs are. Similarly to Swearin', there's a bit of Rainer Maria in the vocals, but Hop Along also feel rooted in the fuzz folk of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Microphones. And like Jeff Mangum and Phil Elverum, Hop Along singer Frances Quinlan is more interested in delivering raw emotion than worrying about precision. Standout tracks like "No Good Al Joad," "Laments," and "Tibetan Pop Stars" demand repeated listens, and on the latter, when Frances yelps, "Nobody deserves you the way that I do," you'll forget that emo was ever a bad word.
You can purchase the album at bandcamp, or stream it, along with a list of all upcoming dates, below.

M. Ward @ SXSW 2008 (more)
M. WardImperial Teen headlines, and Merge hints there may be a big surprise (though that surprise will not be the Magnetic Fields who have a showcase at ACL Live that night).
the Love Language
The showcase will be one of at least four SXSW shows for M. Ward who is also playing Central Presbyterian Church (again) on March 14th and Auditorium Shores (again) with The Shins on March 15th (5:45PM Little Hurricane, 6:45PM M. Ward, 8:00PM The Shins).
Eleanor Friedberger is also playing other shows (TBA), and will be back in Austin on a tour with Hospitality who also have more SXSW shows TBA.
The Clean aren't playing SXSW, but the Merge-signed band will be in Austin for Chaos in Tejas this year as part of a just-announced tour with their labelmates Times New Viking.

Eleanor at Lambert's in 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)
Eleanor Friedberger of the Fiery Furnaces will be in Texas this March for SXSW (where she'll be playing solo). She'll then stick around for a week long "residency" (not 100% sure what that means) at Ballroom Marfa in Marfa where she'll be recording a limited edition 7-inch with Gory Smelley of Marfa Recording Company. She'll perform live in Marfa at Crowley Theater on March 24. Tickets for the show are on sale (and only $5).
She'll return to TX on her just-announced tour with Hospitality which includes Fitzgerald's in Houston (4/26), Korova in San Antonio (4/27), and an Austin show at Frank on April 28. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
All dates and more at BrooklynVegan.
