Jack White @ Austin Music Hall - 1/24/2015
Jack White (maybe you have his baseball card) is touring and hit Austin over the weekend for two sold-out shows at Austin Music Hall, Saturday (1/24) and Sunday (1/25). Night one was business (he came wearing a button down and slacks with suspenders) and had Charlie Sexton guest on "Ball and Biscuit," and night two was casual (black t-shirt and jeans). At both shows, ushers at the doors told people not to use their phones during the performance, and then right before he went on someone came out to remind the crowd once again. Both shows were opened by LA's Chicano Batman.
We've got pictures of the first night in this post. More, with the setlists from both shows, below...

Jack White / Wu Tang / Die Antwoord
The gooey ground created a nice open space to get close to the Mars stage for anyone who didn't care about clean ankles and also gave the few dedicated (or more likely, inebriated) Free Presstonians a chance to cover each other in mud kisses to the tune of Jack White's playful ditty "We're Going to Be Friends."Houston's Free Press Summer Fest wrapped up with its second day on Sunday (6/1), still muddy from the rain that plagued the first day. This time we got sets from Jack White, Wu-Tang Clan, Die Antwoord, Lauryn Hill, The Kills and more. Pictures of day 1 are here and pictures of day 2 are in this post.
Yep. That display really did happen, and it was just as precious as it sounds in print.
Despite the liberties the small tribe of mud people took with what nature gave us on Sunday, I left the festival wondering what it would have taken to get more people in the mud during Jack White's set to celebrate the end of the most eventful Free Press Summer Fest since its early years. Jack White @ ACL Festival - 10/13/2012
While Neil Young & Crazy Horse did their thing at the other end of Zilker Park, Jack White & The Peacocks (his all-female backing band) cast a blue glow on the crowd at the AMD stage. Here are some pictures and the setlist from Jack's performance which maybe you also caught via the livestream. If not, it repeats again tonight (10/14). Watch and you'll see Jack perform a mix of solo, White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather material.
Or maybe you're busy tonight because you were lucky enough to get a ticket to see Jack tape an episode for ACLTV. If you didn't, it will air on PBS probably next year, like the Bon Iver episode did this week.
A full ACL Day 2 set of pictures is coming, but first a taste of what people will be seeing at The Moody Theater tonight. Pictures of Jack White & The Peacocks and ACL setlist below...
ACL TV announced two new tapings for Season 38 set for the first week of November:
We're pleased to announce two more tapings for Season 38 with a veteran and a rising star: Bob Mould on November 1 and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes on November 5.
For fans of alternative rock, Bob Mould scarcely needs any introduction. The singer/songwriter/guitarist rewrote the rules of punk rock in the 80s with his band Husker Du and defined the sound of melodic alt.rock with his 90s power trio Sugar. He's also released a line of critically lauded solo albums that have ranged in sound from acoustic reverie to electronic dance music and everything in between. Following his highly regarded memoir See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody and a successful tour performing the classic Sugar album Copper Blue in its entirety, Mould has release his acclaimed new LP Silver Age, a high-volume reminder of Mould's mastery of melody, power and passion. We're thrilled to bring this pioneering rocker to the ACL stage.
Check out videos of all three below.

It's only July, and ACL isn't until October 12th, but the schedule for this year's festival is live. Some big conflicts this year include Delta Spirit vs The War on Drugs, Patrick Watson vs First Aid Kit, Weezer vs Florence & the Machine, M. Ward vs M83, Metric vs Andrew Bird, The Shins vs The Roots, Polica vs Tennis, The Weeknd vs Die Antwoord, Old 97s vs Avett Brothers Vs Iggy & the Stooges vs Willis Earl Beal, and MOST NOTABLY (aka super frustrating)... Jack White vs Neil Young.

Hurry up and get your Vault subscription at www.thirdmanrecords.com before the deadline of July 31st to be able to grab this little piece of musical history.
UPDATE: Check out the full lineup WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE BON IVER (the card was fake)
Bon Iver at an ACL taping (more by Tim Griffin)
ACL Fest has been revealing artists via lottery tickets who will be at this year's festival, which goes down in Austin from October 12-14. So far, they've confirmed Jack White, Bon Iver, Zola Jesus, The Black Keys, Black Lips, Alabama Shakes, A-Trak, Kimbra, Punch Brothers, Andrew Bird, Steve Earle, Childish Gambino, Delta Spirit, LP, Quiet Company, Freelance Whales, Barrington Levy, Esperanza Spalding, A-Trak, Gary Clark Jr., Bombay Bicycle Club, and Two Door Cinema Club.
This past Friday (5/18), we posted that Red Hot Chili Peppers are playing, due to a lotto ticket that appeared on ACL's Facebook page (and it's still there). CoS is however reporting that the ticket is a fake and the ACL publicist has confirmed the same to us. Does that mean they're not actually playing? Is there some kind of conspiracy going on????? (Does anyone even actually care?) ACL Mike says:
Flea and I discussed this, among and other things, and the truth? Well, I'm not sure if you can handle it.UPDATE: They are in fact playing. Check out the full lineup.
An excerpt of our conversation:
Me: So Flea, what's up in October?
Flea: Hey buddy, we don't hang anymore, it's like we're drifting apart. What's up with THAT?!
The date would certainly fit in RHCP's schedule. Stay tuned for the full lineup announcement in less than 24 hours to find out..
Rumored, and now confirmed. Jack White will return to SXSW this year.
His Third Man Records announces:
The past two years (since we started Third Man Records) we've tried to do something extraordinary for Austin TX's South By Southwest festival. Year One we took over part of our favorite Austin restaurant, FRANK, and brought you Texas Sized vinyl (that's 13" LPs and 8" 45s) and a one of a kind pop up shop. Year Two we introduced our Rolling Record Store with live performances from Jack White and Seasick Steve. You can also catch Pujol at 'Hotel Vegan' on Wednesday during the day. Stay tuned for more details on that.
This year we thought we'd try and do something we've never done before at SXSW. A showcase. Yes, we resisted it the first two years, but this year the temptation was just TOO strong. So without any further ado, it is our extreme pleasure to announce The Third Man Records Texas Show Down at The Stage in Austin, TX on March 16th. Featuring your favorite Third Man acts, friends of the label, and bands we just frankly really like that we'd love you to check out.
Our friends over at Nasty Little Man and From The Basement helped us put this whole thing together, and for that we thank them.
The Rolling Record store will also be in Austin again this year; dealing out records, exclusive goods and some brand new SXSW-only Rolling Record Store merchandise. Check the Rolling Record Store twitter account for locations as we move around the city throughout the festival. It's first appearance will be Wed the 14th.
