Ditch the Fest 3 @ 29th Street Ballroom 10/12 @ 10/13/2012
GayCL @ Cheer Up Charlies 10/14 @ 10/13/2012

There's rarely a shortage of things to do in Austin come festival time, and this weekend during ACL is no exception. For those who want something different from the Zilker Park fare, Ditch the Fest 3 is happening on Friday (10/12) and Saturday (10/13) at The 29th Street Ballroom and The Spiderhouse Cafe.

There's also GayCL over at Cheer up Charlies on 10/14, a Rock The Vote party (RSVP) over at The American Legion on 10/12, and both KGSR and KUT will have special events outside of that-other-thing going on.

Yet another option for Friday is visiting Holy Mountain, which is the new face of the former Beauty Bar on 7th Street. They'll be having an after-party there with Learning Secrets and Omar S (tickets are $10, but you can splurge and get a "VIP Booze Buffet Pass" for $25!).

This is hardly all that is going on this weekend (Transmission Free shows too), so if you're not rocking at ACL and can't find something to do - you're just not trying. :)

Check out more details from Ditch The Fest 3 and GayCL below.

Dana Falconberry - Leelanau

As discussed, Dana Falconberry's BVAustin-presented Leelanau release party is happening later today at The Scottish Rite Theater (tickets). Check out the video flyer, one of the new songs, and more details below.

And, as Dana pointed out, it's National Taco Day! Go eat some before the show, but get there in time for Marmalakes and Good Field. See you there!

Meanwhile you can hear the whole album streaming over at SPIN.

Dana Falconberry @ Frontier Bar - 9/9/2012
Dana Falconberry @ Frontier Bar - 9/9/2012

Dana Falconberry's new album, Leelanau, is coming out on October 9. As we mentioned previously, the release party is this week at The Scottish Rite Theater on Thursday (10/4). KUT and BVAustin will be presenting the show and tickets are available now.

She'll be accompanied for the performance by the Tosca String Quartet and Elaine Barber on harp, with special guests Marmalakes and Good Field.

After the party she'll be headed up to Dallas, hitting the road with My Jerusalem through the first half of October. Besides both being from Austin, the two bands have more in common: My Jerusalem's album Preachers also comes out October 9.

The second half of the month has her touring with fellow Austinites Heartless Bastards, as well as Futurebirds (who are from R.E.M.'s hometown of Athens, GA).

Back in early September Lucy The Poodle presented a free show featuring Dana at Frontier Bar with Silver Ships, Eliza Rickman, and Technicolor Hearts (who will be at CMJ this year with BVAustin for The Texas Takeover Party). Unpublished pictures from the Frontier Bar show are in this post.

See more pictures from all of the bands from the September show, along with Dana's upcoming tour dates below.

Dana Falconberry will be performing with her usual suspects, and as it says above, the Tosca String Quartet will join along with Elaine Barber on harp. Having seen a few DF shows, we're very much looking forward to hearing the additional string section fill out her already-great arrangements.

Tickets are available now.

In other Dana news, she'll be at UTOPiAfest on Friday (9/28 at 4:45pm on the 'Cypress' stage) before heading to Marfa for her El Cosmico performance Saturday (9/29).

Check out Dana's Video for 'Lake Charlevoix' from her new album, along with a link to NPR's stream of 'Crooked River' below...

Zola Jesus @ The Parish - 2/3
Zola Jesus @ The Parish - 2/3/2012

On Friday 2/3, Wisconsin's Nika Roza Danilova (better known as Zola Jesus) came to Austin and played a sold-out Parish. She opened with 'Avalanche', and spent the next hour enveloping and surrounding the audience with her music, all the while darting back and forth on a stage that seemed too small for her. Take a look at the whole printed setlist below.

Brooklyn's Talk Normal and Austin's Technicolor Hearts (whose 'Pretty' made KUT's 'Song of the Day' today - 2/6) had strong performances as well. If you missed them, you can catch Technicolor Hearts on Thursday February 9th (with The Calm Blue Sea, Marmalakes, The Sour Notes and others) at The Mohawk. Tickets are still available.

More pictures from the Austin Zola Jesus show, which ended just in time for everyone exiting to get drenched from the pouring rain outside on 6th Street, below...

Deer Tick

Back at the end of October Deer Tick came through town, and in addition to a show over at Emo's East, they also hit up KUT and Waterloo Records. We just posted some pictures and video from those two, right over HERE.
