King Buzzo of Melvins Lite @ Mohawk - 10/19/2012

As we mentioned a while back King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn are 'Melvins Lite', and they're on a 51-show tour (50 states and The District of Columbia) that will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for "Fastest Tour of the U.S. by a Band." If all goes to play, hey will successfully wrap the attempt tonight (10/25) in Honolulu. Good luck to them!

Show #45 happened on 10/19 at The Mohawk, where they played with their tour-mates Tweak Bird. Pictures from that show below.

Melvins at Music Hall of Williamsburg (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)

Melvins Lite's mega-trek and quest for "Fastest Tour of the U.S. by a Band" kicks off in early September but it won't be until the finish line is within sight that the band will swing through Austin and play Mohawk on October 19. Only six more States after that to complete their mission. Visit BV for all the details.

King Buzzo of The Melvins @ Mohawk on 4/19

The Melvins came to The Mohawk on 4/19 and brought the loudness with gods of NYC noise-rock Unsane as part of their tour together. Did you go? Manage to score one of those Melvins/Unsane "cagematch" splits?

Same Sack provided local support. If the name isn't familiar, the faces might be. It's a (relatively) new project that includes King Coffey (Butthole Surfers) on drums, Craig Clouse (Todd) on bass, and Matt Turner (Rubble) on... well also on bass.

King Buzzo and crew played 14 songs (or maybe 15 - if you count the "Hung Bunny" & "Roman Dog Bird" medley as two songs - the printed set list was only labeled "LYSOL") to a packed house, and judging by the volume levels, probably to the rest of the neighborhood too. Melvins' Coady and Dale took over drum-duty during Unsane's set as Vinny Signorelli was not able to make the show.

True Widow's heavy shoegaze will be featured at a Melvins/Unsane after-show at Mohawk on April 19th, when the band will be joined by like-minded yet wholly different French shoegaze-BM crew Alcest (who played Austin as part of the BV-BBG day party during SXSW). Tickets for both the Melvins show AND the after-show are still available.

Following that Mohawk show True Widow will play four more Texas shows before hitting the road for a string of dates that hits the East Coast. All tour dates are listed again below.

Unsane at Santos in NYC (more by Keith Marlowe)

As discussed on BV and then officially announced in full today, Melvins will hit the road for a string of dates with Unsane this spring. The pair will tour the US in April and May, tagging Mohawk on April 19th. Ticketing info is forthcoming.

Unsane's new album, Wreckwill hit via Alternative Tentacles on March 20th. For more details on the LP, head to BrooklynVegan. The band is also prepping a tour-only split with Melvins that will see each band cover the other.
