Neon Indian @ Lollapalooza 2012 (more by James Richards IV)
He may split his time between Texas and Brooklyn, but when Neon Indian wants to party for New Year's Eve he chooses -- this year at least -- Austin where he'll be ringing in 2013 at Mohawk. Tickets are on sale now.
Meanwhile, Neon Indian main man Alan Palomo has branched out into filmmaking, writing and directing an animated sci-fi short called Outer Osmo Ghost Mode, that was animated Johnny Woods and stars the vocal talents of Chairlift's Caroline Polnachek as "Osmo." You can watch it below, and folks in Brooklyn can ask him questions at a public screening tonight (11/30).

Willie Nelson @ The Moody Theater
Willie Nelson spent then end of 2011 with his family at Austin's Moody Theater where, like he did when the new ACL Live venue opened earlier in the year, he played two shows - one on 12/30, and the other one night later on New Year's Eve...
"The full house stood for much of Nelson's set that included "Good Hearted Woman," "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and "On the Road Again." The Willie Nelson Family Band included a few bonuses, with Lukas on electric guitar, Micah on snare drum and Amy on background vocals. The crowd at Moody Theater ate every bit of Nelson's set up, loudly singing along with his slew of hit songs. The shows included an opening set by Willie's daughter Amy and Arlo Guthrie's daughter Cathy aka Folk Uke (if you say that quickly you may understand their intent). They ended their set with "Motherfucker Got Fucked Up", which helped cement their sense of humor in case you didn't get it from the name. "You guys can sing along with us if you want. If you don't want to say 'mother fucker' you can say 'mother forker' or 'mother folker' or 'cock sucker'."
As midnight approached, the crowd cheered when a few surprise guests showed up: Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Nashville's Jamey Johnson joined Nelson and family on stage and father time descended from the ceiling to the stage. Balloons dropped and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" soon turned to "Happy Birthday to You" for Bobbie Nelson, whose birthday is January 1." [Culture Map]
We have pictures from the first night (12/30), and they continue below...
"Seeing Killdozer at Emo's, thinking the last 20 years didn't happen. It was all a dream and I still have hair." - King Coffey
It's New Year's Eve! Great shows tonight include Russian Circles at Red 7, The Black Angels at Emo's East, Willie Nelson at ACL Live, and Big Freedia/Turquoise Jeep at Mohawk (that's TJ pictured above). Grupo Fantasma is playing Club De Ville instead of Beauty Ballroom, and sadly nobody is playing Emo's Inside because last night Killdozer closed down that club forever. Check out a Statesman article on the topic that includes interviews with the club's former staff. Stay tuned for our pictures from the final nights, and R.I.P. Emo's.
Speaking of last night, it's when BrooklynVegan posted their collective list of favorite albums from 2011. Check that out.
Party hard tonight, but then rest up for Free Week.
Beauty Bar announced via Twitter that, "due to unforeseen complications with the City of Austin," their New Year's Eve show with Grupo Fantasma scheduled at the new Beauty Ballroom (2015 E. Riverside Drive, next to Emo's East) has been moved to Club de Ville on Red River. "All tickets purchased online are redeemable at Club Deville, refunds available by contacting frontgate tickets customer service." Tickets are also still on sale.

Big Freedia @ FFFF6 in November (more by Tim Griffin)
Big Freedia recently played the Mohawk - a Fun Fun Fun Fest afterparty - after bringing Azz Everywhere to the festival proper earlier that day (and became BFFs with Ryan Gosling in the process). Check out more pics from Freedia's Fun Fun set HERE (we missed the Queen Diva's late Mohawk set, but we heard it was packed beyond belief in the inside room where it took place).
Turquoise Jeep also made an even more rare appearance at Fun Fun Fun Fest Fest 2011 (in the comedy tent). We missed that too, but heard rave reviews about the Youtube sensations and so are excited for the chance to not-miss-them 'Smanging it' this time around.
Check out videos of both below...
The press release says it all (well, most of it):
BEAUTY BAR'S HEADING EASTGrupo Fantasma tickets are on sale.
The Beauty Ballroom opens New Years Eve with Grupo Fantasma
After 5 years at its current location on 7th St and Red River, The Beauty Bar brand is expanding to a second location, a 700-capacity venue located at 2015 Riverside, on the SE corner of Royal Crest and Riverside.
Beauty Bar founder Paul Devitt and Frank Hendrix from Emo's are joining forces to bring this exciting new venue to Austin. "Frank approached me this summer about his plans to lease a boarded up nightclub near the new Emo's. A month later he asked me if I'd be interested in partnering up" said Devitt. "We became friends when I opened on 7th Street and Frank has always liked the brand."
The Beauty Ballroom will feature state of the art light and sound, a 500-cap dance floor and 200-cap balcony. This second, new Beauty Bar location promises to be one of Austin's premier live music venues with a focus on booking more national and international touring acts while still offering the lounge feel and Beauty Bar aesthetic that patrons around the country have fallen in love with.
"We are really excited about the new venue on Riverside. From the layout of the building to the live production specs to the signature paint job and decor, we are really putting a lot of thought into this venture and we hope to bring Austin something a little different from the standard music venue experience." - Beauty Bar partner Bart Butler.
December 31, 2011, The Beauty Ballroom makes its grand debut with a special New Years Eve performance from longtime Beauty Bar compatriots and Grammy Award winning artists Grupo Fantasma, along with Maneja Beto and DJ Chorizo Funk. In addition, the show will be filmed and recorded for inclusion in the bands upcoming live CD/DVD release. For more information visit http://thebeautybar.com/austin
What the press release doesn't mention is that Beauty Bar's current location on Red River is, if the rumors are to be believed, closing after SXSW this year. Emo's closes its Red River location even sooner. Emo's Inside will host its last show on 12/30 of this year.
Emo's East, or "the new Emo's" as they call it above, is having a New Year's Eve party with The Black Angels, Wooden Shjips and Ume. Tickets are on sale.
