I've been hounded for the last few weeks to do a 'best of' post for the shows I've been to and the pictures I've taken in 2012. After several false starts, I decided to just walk through chronologically and try and do justice to all of the wonderful shows without missing too much. Frankly I should be concentrating on posting all of the stuff I shot that never made it live instead of this (woops), but that is next on my list.
The pictures aren't meant to be exhaustive or all-inclusive of what was the best (I'm certain I've missed many things; I'm not even touching festival stuff, and I went to BELGIUM!), but here we go. Personally 2012 was quite the roller-coaster, and every show was a wonderful escape. Some of the shots may or may not be my best work - but if it's in here, then the show, band or bands there, venue and everyone else involved were some of my favorites for 2012 (at least up until November). Loved Gary Clark Jr. and Esperanza Spalding too, but since they are recent you'd find them easily enough.
Have at it. Pictures below. Apologies to anyone I've left out.

Season 38 of of Austin City Limits premiered last night on PBS with the Radiohead episode. If you missed it live in March, on TV, and in Republic Square Park, now here's your chance to finally catch it, via the video below...

Radiohead @ Moody Theater (JoelBush)

One night after Dallas and one night before their sold out show at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin with Other Lives, Radiohead taped an episode of Austin City Limits at the Moody Theater on Tuesday night (3/6).
Clive Deamer, now Radiohead's 2nd drummer, was with them for the show, his second time playing ACL TV; he also drummed for Robert Plant.
Radiohead's set, some of which might be cut for the TV show, consisted of 17 songs including new songs "Indentikit", "Staircase", and "Skirting On The Surface". Like in Dallas, they brought back the long lost "The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy". "Reckoner" started off wrong so Thom stopped it and started again. The encore ended with "Paranoid Android".
Stay tuned for the air date. Full setlist, and one more picture (by Tim Griffin, via the BV Austin Instagram), below...

Screen grab from Andy Langer's Twitter

While I haven't yet found an official announcement, Andy Langer tweeted (pictured above) that one of the items at Jo's 6th Annual Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook Off up for auction was a date night for 2 - dinner and drinks followed by attending an ACL TV episode taping featuring Bon Iver. This would fall right between his Coachella and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival dates.
Justin Vernon last performed in Austin at The Long Center with Kathleen Edwards. Last night he performed on Saturday Night Live.
This would add yet another big name to the 2012 season for ACL TV, which already looks pretty great with Radiohead, The Shins, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, The Civil Wars, and Chris Isaak.
Full Bon Iver tour listing, including the probably correct Austin date below...

In terms of rumors of who will be headlining Bonnaroo this year, Radiohead, who are also headlining both Coachellas, seems to be in the lead. Meanwhile, we can be happy knowing we have not one, but two Austin shows to look forward do. As previously mentioned, Radiohead are taping an episode of Austin City Limits this year. Yesterday they announced the date and how to get tickets:
It probably goes without saying that here at ACL TV HQ we have a big wish list. (Not to mention a fondness for initials.) So we're always excited when an artist from that list moves over to our taping schedule. We're thrilled that Radiohead is the latest name to make the transition. The band, who is on tour in support of their latest LP The King of Limbs, brings their legendary live show to ACL Live at The Moody on March 6 to dazzle our cameras and, of course, our audience.March 6th is one day before they play the Frank Erwin Center with Other Lives. As always there will be a public giveaway. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages – and, of course, the blog – for information on how you can witness this most highly acclaimed and beloved of bands in ACL action.
But's that's not all because we are so excited, we are offering a pair of tickets to one lucky person for signing up for our newsletter. Sign up today for a chance to win a pair of tickets to what will certainly be one of the most talked about ACL tapings in recent history.
Stay tuned.
MeanwhileMeanwhile, tickets go on sale today for Death Cab and Chris Isaac.

No specific dates have been set yet, but today Austin City Limits TV announced four confirmed tapings as part of their 38th season, including Radiohead who play the Frank Erwin center on March 7th (and who played September 28th and 29th of this year in NYC). The full list is below.
For those on a budget - good to know ACL TV Tapings are free - with tickets being given away just prior to the shows.
We've covered a few of the amazing tapings so far this year (thanks to the tireless efforts of @griffinshot) - Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, and Wilco - and are looking forward to see what else ACL TV has in store for 2012.
