The Specials @ Mohawk

Including Iggy Pop & The Stooges (which we already posted), SXSW Wednesday night's lineup at Mohawk aka House of Vans for the Vans Official Showcase was nothing less than an embarrassment of riches. Featuring The Specials (who also played an amazing set at Hype Hotel), Ghostface Killah, Japandroids (who we also caught at Viceland), Sky Ferreira, Middle Class Rut and special guests Killah Priest and Sheek Louch, there wwere more than enough impressive bands to go around, especially for a venue the size of Mohawk. More pictures from the show, which went down in the venue after Show No Mercy in the daytime, are in this post.
Sky Ferreira was under the weather and only played a short set that night, but still went on to perform at Mohawk as well as at 1100 Warehouse for Pitchfork.
If you missed it, check out pictures from the whole SXSW week at the Mohawk HERE. More below...

Sky Ferreira at SXSW 2013

Sky Ferriera battled ilness for the bulk of SXSW, losing her voice (and chastity apparently) during the hectic festival. Of the four gigs scheduled, she cancelled one. Ferriera commented on the cancellation:
1. It was one gig. From most accounts her gig with Pissed Jeans and Savages (who also played a BrooklynVegan party and two NYC shows since SXSW....pics HERE and HERE) at 1100 Warehouse for the Pitchfork show on Friday (3/16) went off without a hitch. Check out more pictures from that show below...
2. I probably shouldn't have done the 3 before that after I lost my voice the first time...Which happened in the middle of a set. I went to a doctor and was told I'd be fine to sing after blood test & shots in my ass. Turns out that wasn't the case and now the left side of my throat is messed up & I have a ear infection. My voice happens to be in bad condition because I kept singing. (My fault)
3. If I didn't want to play SXSW because I didn't feel like it or whatever...I wouldn't have came at all & canceled 3 weeks ago.
4. I would never pretend to be sick to get out of something. Canceling one show was hard enough.

Fat Possum Records is teaming up with House of Vans for an official SXSW showcase which will go down at The Mohawk on March 13 (6:30 doors) with hip hop legend Ghostface Killah, ska legends The Specials, punk legends Iggy and the Stooges (who are releasing an album on Fat Possum this year), the less legendary but equally awesome Japandroids, alt-rock band Middle Class Rut, and pop singer Sky Ferreira. If you can't make it to the showcase but still want to watch it, you can stream it live on Seagate and Vans.com/SXSW.
House of Vans is taking over the Mohawk for other showcases and day parties throughout the week of SXSW (including Pitchfork's Show No Mercy party), and the full House of Vans SXSW schedule is below...
