Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit @ Emo's East on 4/13/2012
After playing many shows during SXSW last month, Delta Spirit returned to Austin to play a full Emo's East on Friday night. Much like at their recent sold out show at NYC's Webster Hall, over 1500 attended (including Matt Vasquez's Mom) at what was likely one of DS' largest headlining show to date. Here are some pics.

WATERS @ Webster Hall recently (more by Chris La Putt)
Waterloo Records, who are celebrating 30 years (!), are housing another slew of free, in-store special events this month and beyond, including obligatory Record Store Day festivities.
Rising from the ashes of his band Port O'Brien, folkster Van Pierszalowski's latest project WATERS is set to play Waterloo this evening (4/13) at 5pm before opening for Delta Spirit at Emo's East.
In addition to all the rare goodies you'll have a chance to buy on Record Store day next Saturday (4/21), Waterloo is hosting an appearance by Garbage that afternoon, where the band will be meeting with fans and signing autographs, potentially making that exclusive Record Store Day Garbage 7-inch of their new album's first single, "Blood For Poppies," extra special. The band will also play a sold out gig at La Zona Rosa later that night as part of their current tour.
Austin's own rabble-rousers Heartless Bastards will also perform a free in-store act at the record shop on Wednesday, April 25, but not before they play La Zona Rosa on April 20. Check HERE for more HB tour dates and live pics.

Delta Spirit @ Emo's Outside (more by Tim Griffin)
Delta Spirit, who played one of the last shows at Emo's Outside last year, will play one of the first (relatively speaking) at the new Emo's East on 4/13 as part of a tour with WATERS that also begins right here in Austin at SXSW...
"There's a reason that the third album by Delta Spirit is self-titled: "Because this album is what we think Delta Spirit is," says lead vocalist Matt Vasquez. Delta Spirit will be released by Rounder Records on March 13th, the Tuesday of SXSW Week. "We found the sound that we've been looking for, that we've been growing into, and as soon as we hit on it, we ran with it," says Vasquez. The band realized their vision in sound with producer Chris Coady, who has worked with artists like TV on the Radio, the Yeah Yeahs, Smith Westerns and Beach House.Stay tuned for their full list of 2012 SXSW shows, but so far we know (via ShowlistAustin) that one of them will be a free in-store at Waterloo on 3/13.
Delta Spirit recorded at Dreamland in Woodstock, NY, in a converted 1896 church. They experimented both sonically and structurally with their new material, writing songs with no choruses and generally throwing off simple verse-chorus-bridge conventions. With an album in hand that they feel is true to what Delta Spirit is all about, the band will follow their SXSW appearance with a 30-date national tour. They're known for bringing a raucous energy and exuberance to every performance." [SXSW]
Meanwhile, tickets for the post-SXSW Emo's East show are on sale.
